Description
MARY HOPKIN -'QUE SERA SERA'/'FIELDS OF ST. ETIENNE'
This single has a curious history within the Apple catalogue. It was originally scheduled for UK release on 19th September 1969 and designated the 'APPLE 16' catalogue number. However, its release was halted and rescheduled as 'Apple 27', but that did not materialize either.
This is a genuine Apple UK 2-sided white label test pressing of 'APPLE 16' which was sent to a BBC producer in October 1969.
The 'A' side bears handwritten details of: song, artist, publisher, release date (3/10/69), catalogue number & 'specially arranged by Paul McCartney'.
The 'B' side just has 'Fields of St Etienne' written on it in the same ink.
Matrix numbers: APPLE 16 A-1 & APPLE 16 B-1
Curiously, the side with the 'APPLE 16 B-1' matrix plays 'Que Sera Sera' and 'APPLE 16 A-1' plays 'Fields of St. Etienne'.
Stamper codes: 1/G & 1/G (the earliest possible combination)
The 'KT' purchase tax code is also present in both run-outs.
Housed in its original plain white sleeve.

A bright and undamaged set with just a few small smudges & a handful of small spindle trails around 'B' side centre hole.
Visual: EXCELLENT
Both playing surfaces are extremely clean & glossy with just a handful of light surface marks on each side, but nothing deep or feelable.
Sound Quality: EXCELLENT +
Played just a few times on broadcast equipment only, the sound is clean & clear with no trace of any significant audible faults or wear to either of these charming songs.
