Mascagni Leoncavallo Pagliacci Cavalleria Serafin UK Decca SXL 2253/5
Giulietta Simionato, Mario del Monaco, Cornell MacNeil and others with the Accademia di Santa Cecilia, Rome conducted by Tullio Serafin perform Pietro Mascagni’s “Cavalleria Rusticana”, and Mario del Monaco with Gabriella Tucci, MacNeil and others with the same orchestra perform Leoncavallo’s “Pagliacci”. From 1960, this is a three record set, and is an English stereo pressing on the Decca Label (SXL 2253/5) The labels are black and silver with “Original Recording by…” at 10 o’clock, full frequency stereophonic sound fatband and logo, ffss logo, and a groove. Side two has a tiny mark that sounds for 20 or so revolutions and otherwise the records are of excellent appearance, and play and sound superb with a minimum of surface noise. The box has a small split at the bottom left-hand corner and is otherwise is in almost new appearance as is the libretto.
