NAZARETH ‘THE FOOL CIRCLE’ ORIGINAL 1980 1ST PRESSING A1+B1 STAMPER CODES VINYL LP COMPLETE WITH LYRIC PHOTO INSERT
Sleeve Condition: Four numbered stickers to corners but otherwise Ex++/Near Mint. Insert is marginally creased at the edge but is undamaged and unmarked.
Record Condition: Somewhere between Ex++ and Near Mint. Plays flawlessly.
Allowing for the stickers to the sleeve, this is a stunningly good, collector’s item, complete with original insert.
"We recorded The Fool Circle at about the time that the Russians invaded Afghanistan, and it felt as if World War III was about to erupt. It all felt very weird at the time, and there are a quite a few references to the situation. It's the closest thing we've ever done to a concept album," says Nazareth frontman Dan McCafferty about their 1981 LP.
Despite this sense of unease, Nazareth weren't about to stop having fun or abandon their feel good sound, which hit a peak on their previous album, Malice In Wonderland. A major contributor to the laid-back grooves on Malice... was producer Jeff Baxter and he returned to produce the follow-up, dubbed The Fool Circle as a criticism of man's treatment of his fellow man. This idea was encapsulated by the album cover, which depicts a racehorse morphing into a dolphin. "The idea," explains McCafferty, "was that we'd end up going back to the sea if we weren't careful!" Just as he'd done with Malice In Wonderland, Baxter gave Nazareth's new songs a mellow sheen that suited them perfectly. As bassist Pete Agnew recalls, "There were a lot of different sounds on that LP. The 'Jeff Baxter albums' come up an awful lot in conversation with our fans because there are some really good songs on them." Not least the European single Dressed To Kill.
