COMPLETELY MINT copy of the incredibly rare original 1970 UK jazz LP 'Greek Variations and other Aegean Exercises' by Neil Ardley, Ian Carr and Don Rendell. Columbia SCX 6414. Stereo. Lansdowne Series. Produced by Denis Preston.
I have only ever seen one copy of this legendary LP for sale on Ebay before. Given that this is an unplayed, perfect copy makes it all the more extraordinary. This sort of opportunity arises very rarely. It is, of course, made all the more poignant by the death of Neil Ardley in Derbyshire 2 weeks ago on 23 February this year.
Musicians include - Ian Carr (trumpet/flugelhorn), Don Rendell (saxes, flute), Barbara Thompson (flute, saxes), Brian Smith (saxes), Karl Jenkins (oboe, saxes), Michael Gibbs (trombone), Chris Spedding (guitar), Jack Bruce (bass), Jeff Clyne (bass), Frank Ricotti (vibes), John Marshall (drums), Trevor Tomkins (drums).
The music is in big and small band settings and includes 3 numbers under Ian Carr's leadership which was effectively the first recording of NUCLEUS (ie Carr, Smith, Spedding, Clyne and Marshall).
No marks of any kind on the record. It is a beautiful silky black colour. There are no spindle marks on the label! SLEEVE also in MINT condition with no blemishes of any kind.
