NEON HEARTS – Venus Eccentric/Regulations * ORIG Neon Hearts Records 45 / NEON 001 (UK, Stereo, 1977)
CURRENTLY LISTED: OTHER 1970s UK PUNK 45s – SOME VERY RARE ITEMS. PLEASE TAKE A LOOK!
Out of Wolverhampton, UK, came one of 1977’s finest punk singles – this tremendous debut release from Neon Hearts featured Tone Dial on vox, ex-Suburban Stud, Steve Heart and the late Paul Raven who, of course, would go on to bigger things first with Killing Joke then later with Pigface, Prong and Ministry. This is the original release of this seminal 45 with the oversize 8-inch pic sleeve and the mispressed labels. The vinyl is in superb condition.
The sleeve is the thick card, 8-inch original. It’s survived very well for its 36 years and is in EX- (Excellent Minus) condition. There’s just some light creasing mainly to the top half. A little soft edge and corner wear around this area too but NO splits, writing, rips or stickers. Being the size it is, not an easy single to store but this one has avoided major damage.
The labels are fine – hardly any spindle evidence and no stickers or damage. The text ‘Side1’ and ‘Side2’ has been crossed out probably due to the mispress which has the ‘Regulations’ label on the ‘Venus Eccentric’ side and vice versa.
The vinyl is in great shape, lightly played I’d say with no real marks of any significance, possibly a couple of light small scuffs. Maintains great shine, NO scratches, no hairlines, no nasty embedded dirt. Visually comes in at EX+ (Excellent Plus). BOTH SIDES HAVE BEEN LISTENED TO and plays brilliantly. Blasts out the speakers loud and clear, so expect NO snap, crackle or pop, no ticks, clicks, distortion or groove wear. All in order as far as the audio is concerned. Great listen.
Signing to the Satril label (a subsid of WEA) dragged the band down but they carried on, releasing a couple more 45s and an LP. Most agree though that this debut is their crowning moment – a fierce double sider which showed that yes, the sound of a saxophone could fit in with Punk.
