Description
I am putting up my authentic very early 1969 pressing of Nick Drake's beautiful, FIVE LEAVES LEFT.
This record is rare enough in itself, given how few of these originals are about, but rarer still in that it is a very early first pressing.
Here are some facts about this particular item of mine.
1.This is the Textured Pink Block Label.... textured matte label with the ridge around the edge
2. Album is on heavy vinyl.
MATRIX NUMBERS ARE ILPS 9105 A//2 & ILPS 9105 B//2
(There are no A1/B1 pink labels on an original pressing from 1969)
3. Matrix numbers are machine stamped into the wax runout.
4. The gatefold sleeve was printed by Ernest J. Day.
5. The track order for Day is Done and Way to Blue is reversed on the sleeve. The labels show the correct track order listing.
6. The Island Records address on the back is Basing Street, London W11.
7. The lyrics for 'Three hours' appear on the inside gatefold under the incorrect heading of 'Sundown'
The record plays beautifully, and the heavy glossy vinyl looks amazing. I would conservatively put it at least VG++
It has a couple of light marks, and a couple of very light spindle marks.
Considering its age this album plays like a dream, which makes it all the more satisfying when you consider what you are actually listening to...i.e. its rarity.
The Gatefold cover is in VG condition with no seam splitting or writing, but it does have some staining on the front and back and a little seam wear, but this does not detract from the overall appearance, feel and look of it...which is most acceptable. I personally have not seen one as solid as this or heard an original play as well.
Record has been cleaned on a VPI Record cleaner and stored in an audiophile inner sleeve.
