Description
Great under rated POP FOLK hybrid classic from 1967 starring NICO who did not care for the resulting album:
"I still cannot listen to it, because everything I wanted for that record, they took it away. I asked for drums, they said no. I asked for more guitars, they said no. And I asked for simplicity, and they covered it in flutes! They added strings, and— I didn't like them, but I could live with them. But the flute! The first time I heard the album, I cried and it was all because of the flute.” NICO (died 1988—way too soon)
I partially agree but for different reasons, Dylan’s song should have been deleted—it’s NOT her style at all. With a different producer this LP could have been a true masterpiece, instead of a hybrid curiosity with some very good moments and some dubious selections.
TITLE: NICO: CHELSEA GIRL (original mono issue, 1967)
FORMAT: 33? 12” VINYL LP
PRESSING: MONOPHONIC
LABEL NAME & NUMBER: VERVE V-5032
MATRIX # DEADWAX INFO: (email if you find this pertinent)
JACKET CONDITION:
Lightly bumped corners; light crease along lower right corner; punch out hole lower left; very clean & readable spine; appears to be very little, if any, ringwear; STILL IN SHRINK, Very Clean front & back; no odors; price sticker on shrink on front; overall quite good condition or better (B+)
VINYL CONDITION:
SIDE ONE: light paper scuffs; fingernail scrape across first track(could not hear it); scuffing at trail-in to first track; minor tics & pops; plays better than it looks, although overall it looks bright and glossy.
Visual Grade C+ Play Grade B ( for some reason the trail-in scuffing seems to be imperceptible—maybe it’s because the VINYL was generally better & thicker in those days)
SIDE TWO: Bright & Glossy; numerous pops & tics across first track, CHELSEA GIRL, unfortunately, it looks as tho someone was trying to learn that song 40 years ago and was dropping the needle in the middle of that track! However, it does NOT skip anywhere—just the annoyance of several pops & tics.
Visual Grade B+ Play Grade B+(with exception of noted track)
Minimal tics between tracks on both sides. There are few stray tics & pops on a few other tracks. I played this once when I got it 30 years ago and once to digitize it and playgrade. I doubt it was actually played much at all—there’s NO spindle marks to speak of.
***The sonic quality is quite high on this record—you won’t be disappointed, and if you are, I will GLADLY take this record back. Just pay the postage. Thank you.
SLEEVE: Original VERVE sleeve

It’s too much trouble and I have not enough time to deal with something going awry 6 weeks from the date of purchase when I may not be anywhere near a computer.
