About the Album

By the time of All of Us, Nirvana were a studio-orientated group, and had slimmed down to a core of Patrick Campbell-Lyons and Alex Spyropoulos. This is their best album, with a really nice swinging 60s feel to it, spearheaded by the delightful Rainbow Chaser, with its phasing effect, which narrowly escaped the Top 30. Chris Blackwell (Island label founder) thought so highly of the album he insisted on Rainbow Chaser opening the Island compilation Strangely Strange But Oddly Normal.

All of Us epitomizes British Psychedelia. It would comfortably make the Top 10 records of the Psych genre. Fuzz effects are blended with sumptuous string arrangements that capture the sound of the time but are still totally fresh and original 40 years on. Lyrically the album is equally strong. The song-writing is profound, witty and whimsical all at the same time. This album highlights a band at the peak of their powers. An essential Island & Psych collectable.

Sleeve, Inner Sleeve, Vinyl & Labels

I’ve graded the sleeve as Excellent as it’s strong and fully intact with no stains, tears or writing. There’s creasing to the laminate in places and some laminate lift on the reverse, with slight corner wear but it doesn’t detract from the overall appearance of this stunning sleeve. The spine is rigid and fully legible. All in all, a very strong example. The original inner sleeve is almost Mint be it for some slight creasing. It’s fully intact with no stains, tears or writing. It’s retained its whiteness with no age related staining.

I’ve conservatively graded the vinyl as Very Good, however it’s probably closer to Excellent-. The heavy-weight vinyl has retained its lustre and is visually very clean. A few slight surface marks are only noticeable under direct light. The audio quality is superb with excellent clarity and depth. There is mild surface noise in places with the occasional pop during playback.

The textured pink Island labels are very clean with no staining or writing. There’s very light spindle wear but it can only be seen under direct light. This is a beautiful example of a genre defining album. It should be heard as it was intended with all the warmth only an original vinyl pressing can provide.
