Description
Nirvana "Here She Comes Now" / The Melvins "Venus In Furs" best single ever (7", 45), on the ultra-rare BLACK vinyl, mint and unplayed (was saving it for a day like today), AND it even has the original $3.75 price sticker that says "black vinyl! only 450 made!" I wrote the sticker in 1991 or whenever it was, so you know it's true. My rep at the distributor was like, "dude, if you think of all the random colors being just the 'colored' edition, then the black ones are the real rare ones 'cause there were only 450, but good luck convincing people of that."
So supposedly there were 550 colored (spread out among a ton of colors) and 450 black, but if you were around and pressing singles in various editions in those days, you know that this might have been the intention, but who knows for sure. Some people have hypothesized that there are even less of the black ones 'cause there are so many other colors, who knows.
One myth, though, is that people would press a ton of extras and just SAY it was limited to 1000 or whatever...that makes sense to younger people, given that the bands got so popular and we all used to lie a lot, but really, not that many people were clamoring for these things. I find more often, the bulk of pressings ended up warping in people's cars, or 15 would disappear at some party house or something, and so singles like these are actually much RARER, not more common.
