ITEM DESCRIPTION:
This beautiful LP from Alpha (CM 27, French pressing, white/blue label, mono) features the under-rated and sadly forgotten pianist Naum Sluszny (1914-1979), heard here in an all-Beethoven recital from his projected, but ultimately incomplete, cycle of the 32 Piano Sonatas. A pupil of Stefan Askenazi, Sluszny was a splendid pianist (and composer) who left all too few recordings. Based on the present LP, one can only regret that he did not complete this Beethoven cycle. This disc was recorded at Studio G, Steurbaut, during the mid-1960s.
The exact contents are as follows, all works by Ludwig van Beethoven:
Piano Sonata No. 5 in C minor Op. 10 No. 1
Piano Sonata No. 19 in G minor Op. 49 No. 1
Piano Sonata No. 20 in G Major Op. 49 No. 2
Piano Sonata No. 27 in E minor Op. 90
There are brief liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket by Jacques Stehman, printed in Flemish, French, English, and German. The striking cover photo of Sluszny is uncredited.
CONDITION:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is near-MINT. Really, there are no flaws to speak of, a slight bit of creasing, perhaps, but that is all. Otherwise, the album appears virtually as new – overall, this rates as a very fine collector's copy.
The condition of the LP itself is near-MINT and the playback is superb – overall, a lovely collector's copy.

This LP has been carefully cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine. All LPs are provided with a new Nagaoka (or Nagaoka-style) inner sleeve.
