Here’s Nellie Melba, with "Addio" from La Boheme by Puccini. Nellie is accompanied by an orchestra.
This recording dates from March 1907 (thank you Robert Johannesson)
It has a “Melba Lilac” coloured label, and it’s a single-sided Gramophone and typewriter 12” number 053111. The mx number is A4341. Condition-wise, we would describe it as very nice indeed. There are NO needle digs or runs. The disc shines like those Sunlit Uplands promised by Boris, (ony this time, they really ARE shiny and sunlit) and has only a very few tiny damp/storage marks, which play through giving no grief to the ear'ole.
It is remarkably clean and tidy for a 116 year old record, and is in good solid collectable condition. Using "Record Collector" magazine's criteria, we would call it a very strong VG+ or better. Using the other system, we reckon it's an E- and a pretty good one, at that.
