Nick Drake Byter Layter lp Original 1970 1st pressing Island ILPS 9134
Matrix numbers ILPS9134 A 1U and ILPS9134 B 1U
There are lots of forgeries/repressings of this classic lp on the market, but this is a guaranteed first pressing (I've owned this copy since the mid 1970s). There were two 1970s pressings with a pink rim label the original from 1970 and a repressing from 1972. The 1972 pink rim pressing has brackets around the song timings on the labels. It also has "Island Records Ltd" written beside the date. This copy has neither indicating that this is a genuine first pressing from 1970.
The lp is in stunning condition - at least ex+. It has clearly barely been played and the only marks of any sort are some incredibly fine wispy ones only visible under very bright light. These of course do not affect play in any way.
The labels are graded ex+. They are clean, free from stickers, residue, writing or tears (see photos). There are some light spindle marks otherwise the labels are stunning.
The sleeve is graded vg. This sleeve is notoriously difficult to find in mint condition. It was very easy to crease, the edges were very prone to rubbing and the front and rear almost always have significant ringwear. On this copy the ringwear is minimal. Unfortunately there is noticeable wear to the corners and edges (see photos). In addition the spine has a small split where it has been rubbed. There are also a couple of creases.
The lp has the correct plain inner sleeve; the blue Island inner sleeve did appear until later pressings. It is in ex- condition.
The sleeve may not satisfy the most exacting of collectors but the lp certainly will.
