This handsome and rare LP from Marco Polo (6.220406, Japanese pressing, blue/silver label, DDD stereo) features one of the early releases from the forerunner of the Naxos label, with violinist Takako Nishizaki (wife of the label’s founder, Klaus Heymann) in brilliant accounts of Louis Spohr’s Violin Concertos No. 7 in E minor Op. 38 and No. 12 in A Major Op. 79 “Concertino No. 1”.

Both performances were recorded in December 1985 at the Concert Hall, Bratislava, with conductor Libor Pesek and the Bratislava Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra.

Nishizaki is an enormously gift violinist in her own right and plays with here with tremendous verve and poetry, Pesek’s accompaniment quicksilver and perfectly shaded. The sound is absolutely first rate. This album was produced by Louis Komarck.

There are fine liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket by Keith Anderson, printed in English only. The memorable cover portrait of Spohr is uncredited, alas.

CONDITION:

The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

The condition of the jacket is EXCELLENT. There is some discoloration to the rear panel and light shelfwear to the front. However, there are no seamsplits, bends, or owners' markings, or other defects, and the whole remains solid, bright, glossy, and highly attractive – overall, an excellent collector's copy.

The condition of the LP is near-MINT and playback is superb – overall, a truly fine collector's copy.

This LP has been carefully cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine. All LPs are provided with a new Nagaoka (or Nagaoka-style) inner sleeve.
