Oooooh boy - this is a really good one! Marlena Shaw on Cadet #5656 - Looking Thru the Eyes of Love/California Soul. This specific copy is really clean, and looks like though it was played it was greatly cared for too. The labels are pretty perfect, except for a drill hole. Only the slightest bit of wear on them - hardly any aging at all. No rips, not a thing to make me go less than VG++, than the drill hole, which to me, always knocks it down at least one plus. Sigh. But they're in great shape on both sides. The wax has some super light visual scuffing you can see when tilting it - it had a couple imprefections from the pressing that looked like they might suck, but didn't. Nothing interrupted the play. I'll go VG+ on the wax quality for sure, and VG++ on the playback quality.
Looking Thru the Eyes of Love, is that female lead soul performance you want...a semi-complex song here, and her delivery is strong.
California Soul has a great smooth vocal over full orchestration - and a bass player that wants to call on his inner Bootsy.  Super pre-disco, but calling it out for sure. Fun song.
