Description

Featuring the sounds of 21 of Britain's leading jazz musicians playing their hearts out, this double LP set was recorded in 1972. The music on this classic recording was composed by Barry Guy, with solos by a long list of British stars taking the solos ...

As the review on AllMusic states: "This mammoth ...recording of the LJCO. led and composed by Barry Guy, is among the most profound, hard-swinging, mind-bending exercises they've ever recorded. ...The collective features such noteworthy musicians as Evan Parker, Paul Lytton, Derek Bailey, Tony Oxley, Paul Rutherford, Karl Jenkins and others. Guy's compositions for orchestra ... run the gamut from lush, tightly charted affairs ... to dense atonal architectures with angular solos ... For the listener, the result is a stunning array of questions, colours, shapes, timbres, textures and moods. ... Ode is a kind of miracle."

The two LPs come in a special box with a large insert detailing soloists, personnel and Barry Guy's intentions in putting Ode together. This collectable two-LP box set has sold on specialist site Discogs for an average price of over £100 We have moved house, and no longer have the ability to play or the space to house my collection of jazz and free-jazz LPs, so I am starting this auction at a very reasonable £72.

The LPs are in VG+ condition (see Discogs.com for definitions of grading), the box in VG condition (artwork in VG+, three of the four corners of the box show some signs of wear).

Careful packaging will ensure that this box arrives anywhere in mainland UK in lovely condition by first-class recorded delivery (we should probably discuss insurance options!) - charge for packaging and postage will be £8.25.
