There's a palpable sense that he's excitedly exploring every option afforded him by the Mexican Summer studios, immersing himself and us in a vivid off-planet adventure every bit as sincerely lush and awe-inspiring as previous solo outings, but moving out of the shadows of his over-referenced influences and into the light of a stranger, alien sun.
