* Roots in the Sky * Wenn es eine Formation gab, der man eine gelungene Symbiose von Asien, Afrika mit Jazz und Klassik zuerkennen konnte, dann war das mit Sicherheit Oregon. Mit dem umfangreichen Instrumentarium, mit diesen außergewöhnlichen, überallhin offenen Ohren der Bandmitglieder bot Oregon ja auch dazu beste Voraussetzungen. John Towner, Paul McCandless, Glen Moore und besonders Colin Walcott schufen 1979 mit ihrem zweiten Elektra-Album Wurzeln, die wirklich im musikalischen Himmel jener Zeit ihren Ursprung hatten. Oboe, Englisch-Horn, Bassklarinette, sechs und zwölf-saitige Gitarre, Piano, Flügelhorn, Perkussion, Bass, Sitar, Tabla – so die vielseitige Instrumentierung – verliehen den neun Titeln bis dahin selten gehörte Klangfarben und markieren bis heute den Übergang aus der Hippie-haften mehr Country-Music geprägten Vanguard Periode bis zum klassischen späteren ECM-Sound. Insofern ist "Roots In The Sky" ein bis heute wichtiges Zeitdokument der Musikwelt zwischen 1970 und 1980. Eine seltene schwarze Scheibe, auf der es viel zu entdecken gibt!
Diese Speakers Corner Produktion wurde unter Verwendung von analogem Masterband und Mastering 100% rein analog gefertigt. Alle Lizenzen und GEMA-Beiträge wurden abgeführt.

If there was ever a group that successfully amalgamated Asian and African music with jazz and classic, then it was surely Oregon. With a wide range of instruments and the musicians’ unusually receptive ears for everything here, there and everywhere, Oregon certainly enjoyed the optimal prerequisites. John Towner, Paul McCandless, Glen Moore and in particular Colin Walcott laid the foundations for their music in the musical heaven of their time. Oboe, cor anglais, bass clarinet, six- and twelve-string guitars, piano, flugelhorn, percussion, bass, sitar, tabla – such a versatile range of instruments – lent the nine numbers their, until then, rarely heard sound colouring and mark the transition from the band’s more hippy-like, country sound when they recorded for the Vanguard label to their later classic sound when signed to ECM. In this respect, "Roots In The Sky" is an important contemporary document in the world of music between 1970 and 1980. A rare black disc on which there is much to discover!
This Speakers Corner LP was remastered using pure analogue components only, from the master tapes through to the cutting head. All royalties and mechanical rights have been paid.
