Description
You are bidding on a VERY RARE1-sided, 10-inch, 78 rpm vinyl record recorded in 1905: NEGRO LAUGHING SONG by George Washington Johnson (Oxford 210, made by Sears & Roebuck). This historic recording, marked the first popular hit by an African American performer and composer. Johnson was a former slave who became a street musician in New York City, eventually writing and recording several novelty songs in the 1890s. This crude but amusing recording finds Johnson laughing in time with the music, after a verse or two in which a "dandy darky" is told he could be the "king of Africa." Don't pass up this opportunity to own a pivotal piece of pop music history and Black Americana. Overall condition of the record is a strong VG+ (small number written on label), with a generic paper sleeve included. First class shipping within the USA is $4.00.
