Hi, I am Mike, I am 46 and have been a music collector and enthusiast for over 33 years now. We all wish we could turn back the clock and buy those wonderful brand new records from the 60s and 70s, but alas, this is not possible; so I always try to offer the finest and most accurately described and graded records I can find. No vinyl/music lover really would choose to buy second-hand, but this is only way now to own these valuable, prized and ellusive items now. I will rarely offer any record that falls below a true Excellent grading, unless its of a certain rarity which will justify offering a lesser grade. I try, to the best of my ability to describe as accurately and as honesty as I can all items I offer for sale with all the relevant information I can think of to help any potential bidder and collector. You may notice I only submit records sparingly on Ebay - on average ONEADAY, hence the name - time rarely allows for more as I Play-Grade virtually every record I offer in their entirity, not just bits to guess a grade (on a Rega 3 deck with Ortofon cartridge) - visuals alone do not always tell a true or full story - I will mention any defects or flaws no matter how small that I notice to be fair as possible to any interested reader – I am very fussy and my buyers have the right to be too. Every record I offer, whether it be a common or rare item deserves the same respect as far as I am concerned and will be treated the same - just because an item is rare does not always mean its good. I get just as much pleasure offering a relatively common record in stunning near mint condition as the real rare items. All the pictures I use for your guidance are taken with a digital camera or scanned - they are NOT improved, cleaned-up or made better looking than they are with camera trickery or enhancing with digital programmes. Label/Format: Harvest (Classic yellow and green format, a pre-EMI original example with sold in UK subject to resale price conditions, see price lists) [Please see label scans for all information needed].

Label Condition: Beautiful clean examples that show only very light spindle traces and no wear around the centre hole at all. This stunning copy looks very lightly played indeed.

Cat Number: SHVL 753.

Mono or Stereo: Stereo.

Country of Manufacture: Gt Britain.

Rarity: Rare and getting near impossible to find now. Never a big selling album (to say the least), this is one of those you see on the later Harvest b&w advertising inners and like most of those, they are seldom seen now. I regard this, like the Battered Ornaments Mantle-piece I have on offer at the moment also, as one of the very hardest Harvest’s to find and real nice clean all round copies are very rare indeed.

Original Year of Release: 1969

Matrix Nos: SHVL 753 A-1G and B-1G. This is a very first pressing.

Brief Artist & Album Info: A very tough find and a lovely copy too. The Panama Limited Jug Band are probably the most obscure of the early Harvest artists, their music is hardly commercial and sales would have been very low. The cover design was Hipgnosis and the album was produced by a certain Jonathan Peel. The band were Dennis Parker, Gary Compton, Liz Hanns, Ron Needs and Brian Strachan. I dont know a huge a amount about them to be totally honest but this is a pretty fine album - not to everyone’s taste for sure. But this is a hugely important piece in the early Harvest rare jigsaw. Progressive folk would be a fair interpretation of what they did. I love the cover for this, it has to be one of the finest Harvest fronts and glad to say its a nice one with only pretty minor blemishes. The vintage record is strong too and plays superbly. This is only the second copy of this one I have found in a suitable condition to offer and some dealer friends tell me they have not had one for years. This copy should please most collectors, even the connoisseurs, this is investment material that will not be found often or looking (and sounding) much better.

Cover Grade and Format: EX++, yes very close to the highly coveted Mint(-) category and the only reason is falls just short is a fine press mark on each side - 197 can be seen, its a curious one, I can only think of a price sticker or stock number - sorry dont know for sure, but its relatively minor anyway, the back is close to invisible and I only noticed it when my close scrutiny was made prior to tapping out this advert. This is a gatefold format and its laminated front and back. The top right back has SHVL 753 (1E 062 04099 (S)) Stereo printed on it. (No reference to file under popular pop groups etc). It was printed and made by the classic sleeve printer of this time, Ernest J. Day Ltd, London.

Cover Lamination: Stunning laminate that shines like a mirror with very little dulling at all. Very fresh looking and feeling this has not peeling or dry areas. No real serious creasing, just a couple or three of those light hairline types, they detract little, the back shows up little. Few marks or other indentations, this laminate is age defying and looks superb.

Cover Front: Truly gorgeous with very rich, deep colour beautifully preserved under that lovely laminate. Great psychy looking artwork that makes this one so distinctive. Its clean and unworn and will grace any serious Harvest collection.

Cover Back: Magnificent also, any minor blemishes here remains obscured by the lighter finish on the artwork colour. No ringwear on either side which is always a pleasure to state.

Cover Gatefold Inner: I was going to state perfect, but just noticed four small ‘dots’ near four tracks. They are small and dark and show little, they almost caught me out. That apart, and its pretty minor, perfect and looks terrific.

Top Edge: Virtually Unworn.

Bottom Edge: Virtually Unworn.

Right Edge(s), and Type: Both clean, sharp with no wear or feathering. Record entered on right outside back edge.

Spine and Text: Solid and square with little wear, faint graze trace at very top and bottom but a stunning clean spine, text is near perfect and unworn under the uncracked laminate.

Corners: All four show a little minor wear, mostly on the very tips. All still nicely shaped.

Cover Summary: A very fine all round example of this fragile and rare late-60’s cover, one that could prove extremely to find significantly better. This strong item should please most collectors even with the odd minor blemishes.

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: Mint(-)/EX A superb copy that sees side one as virtually blemish-free. Side two has a few light marks but these are superficial and non-sounding - light surface marks are simply ignored on the deep grooved heavy pressings. This still looks magnificent and I feel totally confident this has been played only very lightly. Its a very clean and heavily pressed original that retains great shine. You can imagine what some copies of this will end up looking like these days and finding such a rare record looking this superb is a real bonus (to say the very least). A fantastic item that should thrill most collectors.

Sound Quality and Audio Grading: This super record plays up to its high visual grading with little to fault. Strong, undistorted sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear. No pops or ticks from memory and a very fine pressing, any surface sounds are minimal indeed. Both channels are clean and clear, I feel very sure this record has been played little and has been well stored and looked after, almost certainly in a non-smoking environment. Little, if anything spoilt my pleasure when play-grading this gem. A copy that will audably outperform this record will prove very difficult to find I guarantee.

Mono vs Stereo, an overview: Always a matter of opinion which is better or more important. For any serious collector where there is a choice e.g. Beatles, Stones, Hendrix etc. both are essential. True Stereo albums give great imagery and presence whereas mono albums usually are more dynamic, louder and present the detail more clearly. Mono albums are far harder to find in genuinely top playing condition. Most were heavily played, particularly the truly great bands and artists, often covered in mark and scratches, many severe and labels that were a mass of spindle marks. The majority were played on vintage and unsubtle decks with heavy tonearms and thick styli (often sapphire, not diamond, that chipped more easily) that rendered heavy wear in a very short time to many a fine classic record. Wear to the delicate groove walls, particularly the innermost tracks to the labels were most vulnerable where the tracking angle became more severe and the backdrag actually stripped the delicate groove walls. This resulted in surface noise and mild/moderate distortion or worse. These old decks tracked by sheer weight and little of any refined engineering. Next time you see such a deck at a local record fayre, feel the weight of the arm, it almost makes you wonder how any records survived at all. The point of this paragraph is emphasise that when a truly clean, lightly played and great sounding 60s mono album (or stereo come to that) is offered, treasure it, because for sure they are truly getting vary rare and precious - beware - demand only play-graded records. As a general guide to rarity, mono was the far more common format from 61–65; Around 66–67 the balance was roughly equal, then from 68-69 the balance swung more to stereo, making monos from these dates far scarcer, even rare - this guide is important and effects values greatly.

Album Played For Grading: Yes.

Final Summary: Obscure and original, this is a real grower. Quite possibly not available on CD either, if it is, I haven’t seen it. Anyway most serious collectors will want the real thing anyway and it’s here looking and sounding pretty magnificent. A definite investment quality item that always appears on wants lists. I highly recommend this copy, I cant imagine I will find another like this again – Mike.

All records are sent in plastic covers with the record taken out of the sleeve and sent in professional mailers with FOUR professional stiffners for extra protection (if space allows), I do NOT use old cardboard boxes or cereal packets for protection. More expensive items are also inserted into a de-luxe heavy duty padded bag AS WELL to give that extra protection. I truly want ALL my items to arrive to their destination in the same condition they leave me. I will also include in most cases a brand new lined inner, but will include the original inner if available and in a condition to be given.
