PAUL GONSALVES QUARTET - BOOM-JACKIE-BOOM-CHICK
A wonderful condition copy of this 1964 UK original jazz holy grail - gorgeous original outer sleeve and superb sound quality throughout
Truly excellent (EX) condition vinyl - weighty and completely flat, and displaying a beautiful jet black sheen - in normal daylight both sides of the vinyl come across as completely unmarked and it is only with close scrutiny under a bright light that just a few purely superficial marks can be identified : on side 1 there is a very, very light scuff/abrasion mark towards the end of the final track, and on the final track on side 2 there is a very small and equally faint scuff mark (each appearing to be purely superficial); there are also a couple of small and wispiest of wispy hairlines along with 1 or 2 tiny and purely superficial scuffs (you will need to look hard to spot them) on each side but nothing here to impinge upon the overall tremendous sound quality, and I have no reservation whatsoever in grading the condition of this vinyl as a solid "excellent". Excellent (EX) deep groove condition labels : very close inspection under a bright light reveals a few small and very faint spindle trails adjacent to the centre hole on each label, but no other blemishes at all. Each label contains the "BBC LIBRARY" stamp - the stamp is faint (see photos) and not obvious and, for me at least, adds authenticity to this vinyl rarity. Excellent (EX) condition fully laminated UK West Brothers outer flipback sleeve. The fragility of these 1st press outer sleeves cannot be overstated so for this copy to be in such excellent all round condition is a real treat. Firm unscuffed edges, including a firm spine with all spine text remaining nicely intact (the "L" in "GONSALVES" and "CA" in "VOCALION" are partially obscured by a laminate crinkle at each location). All colours, art work, text and photos remain in beautiful, vibrant condition with great definition still. There is no cardboard creasing, the opening edges are firm with no fraying (there are a couple of very small "dinks" in each of the front and back opening edges), each corner remains a near perfect right angle with barely any rubbing at all, and there is no unwanted writing. The only "blemishes" are the occasional and small (<1cm) non-obvious and very trivial laminate crinkle adjacent and perpendicular to the front-side top, bottom, and spine (back and front) edges, and a couple of very small areas of laminate lift adjacent to the spine on both the front and reverse sides. The flipbacks on the reverse side remain in near perfect condition. There are two BBC library stickers on the reverse side for which I have little doubt are removeable. Take a good look at my photos where I have tried to show a detailed and honest appraisal of the condition of this iconic sleeve - hard to believe that this copy is 62 years of age...it really is gorgeous! Truly excellent (EX) mono audio quality with no skips, jumps, repeats, sticks, distortion or interference, and any background crackle is at an absolute minimum - just the merest hint of some very, very background crackle during a couple of very short passages - nothing really. You may also come across the very occasional and isolated single and very background click - there are only a few (you will need to listen hard to spot them) and in each instance close inspection reveals no obvious cause - presumably down to the odd speck of dust caught in the grooves through decades of storage. Crystal clear stereo sound quality throughout with great tone, and each and every track remaining a great listen, and no wonder with these jazz giants in top form: Paul Gonsalves (tenor sax), Pat Smythe (piano), Kenny Napper (bass), and Ronnie Stevenson (drums). Comes with "MADE IN ENGLAND" poly-lined inner sleeve with no side splits or edge fraying, barely any creasing, and some mild age discolouration next to the side and top edges. Note that I always ship the vinyl in a new plain white inner sleeve in order to protect the original. One of the most sought after UK 1st press British jazz holy grails, and I can't imagine that there are many in better condition than this.

Note that I always insert the vinyl into a new plain white poly-lined inner sleeve in order to protect the original during postage, and separate this from the outer sleeve to prevent seam splits. I use thick cardboard stiffeners and take great care in my packaging to ensure as far as possible that these precious records reach their destination in exactly the same condition as when they leave me.
