The album opens with what is possibly the best riff ever written, in prologue. The Buddhist chant influence doesnt emerge until track 2, when a psychedelic guitar solo rings over monotone chanting of various members of the band.
In most modern music, the voice is mostly used to fill the fundamental of melody, while the guitar and drums make up the rhythm and the bass creates harmony. The reason this is unique is that the voice not only fills the role of rhythm, but creates a counter-melody (or melody, depending on how you look at it) to the guitar. Counter rhythms also emerge with the bass and drums. This album is so subtly complex it is mind boggling.
The next few tracks evoke early Gong and Pink Floyd, on their spaciest endeavors, creating spacious atmospheres of psychedelic noise. The shomyo then comes back in for part 2.
Finally, Prayer, my favorite part of the album starts with a solitary bongo playing. A sad guitar weeps gently over the solitary rhythm, that seems to be random. A beautiful melody is hummed over a guitar line and the bongos, that seem to be playing unrelated passages, but connect in certain places so flawlessly. The piano creates little flourishes that don't contribute much depth into the atmosphere, but are used as little "birds" the same way Mozart would write his bird into his compositions.
The latter half of Prayer features sounds of orgasms over a Noise rock/ heavy psych progression. Not something you want to show to your friends, but deffinitly an exhilarating listen.
Epilogue ends the album perfectly, in every way. It's short, but sweet. Nothing more could have possibly been said for this near perfect album.
