A truly impressive condition copy of this extremely rare and highly sought after 1970 prog/psych rock UK 1st press gem from the Cream lyricist, Pete Brown, on the 1st press "non-EMI" Harvest record label, STEREO, SHVL 768

The dead wax matrix numbers are :

Side A    SHVL 768 A - 1G with stampers "1" and "G" at 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock respectively 

Side B   SHVL 768 B - 1G with stampers "1" and "G" at 8 o'clock and 2 o'clock respectively

The appearance and overall condition of the flat heavy vinyl is excellent (EX).  Both sides have retained an impressive jet black lacquered sheen and in normal daylight show little sign of wear and tear, a real "gleamer" in fact. Under a bright light, and with close scrutiny, it is possible to detect a few small and very wispy hairlines and small and very light paper scuff marks on each side (slightly more so on side 2), all of which are non-feelable and appear to be superficial with nothing that is obviously below the surface. Certainly this record has the look and feel of having been sparingly played.

The labels are excellent plus (EX+). Lovely smooth textured yellow background with black text and the iconic Harvest logo all in brilliant condition, the only blemishes being a few faint spindle trails on each label adjacent to the centre hole. Note the absence of the usual EMI box which is indicative of very 1st pressings.

The fully laminated (front and back) outer gatefold sleeve is excellent (EX). All edges remain firm with no scuffing at all (amazing!), each corner is a perfectly defined right angle with no rubbing/scuffing, the opening edges are also firm with no fraying or feathering, and the art work, colours, and photos remain in outstanding condition : rich, vibrant and still retaining tremendous clarity, and no unwanted writing or doodles either. There are x10 light laminate surface creases on the front side adjacent and perpendicular to the spine, 2 of which do impinge slightly upon the spine, and a further x6 surface laminate creases on the reverse side; and the only other blemish is a very small area of some light laminate lifting at the front top left corner. Truly excellent!

Finally, the quality of the audio is very good plus (VG+) overall, bordering on excellent. Great tone and clarity even at higher volume and on higher frequencies. No skips, jumps, repeats, or sticks. There is the very occasional light background click (I counted less than 5), along with some infrequent and very mild background crackle, confined to the interludes and some of the quieter moments...never sufficiently intrusive to prevent each and every track from being a great listen. To be precise, and after re-listening to the entire album, I would grade the audio quality as excellent for side 1 and very good plus (VG+) for side 2. What a fine album this is!

Comes with original poly-lined EMI advertising inner sleeve (a collectable in it's own right!) with no tears, rips or seam splits - just a little very mild creasing and age discolouration but overall remaining in great shape and fully functional. Note that I always use a new, plain white replacement inner sleeve for shipping purposes in order to protect the original.

In summary a truly excellent condition copy of this increasingly sought after 1970 UK very 1st press prog/psych rock classic - a worthy addition to any serious vinyl collection and only continuing to increase in value.

On the subject of postage, I take great care in the packaging of all items, using a proper vinyl thick cardboard "crucifix" style mailer along with at least two thick cardboard stiffeners. I take great care in separating the record from the outer sleeve in order to help prevent sleeve damage in transit and I always insert the vinyl, outer sleeve and inner into a clear plastic sleeve, thus adding further protection.

Mint

The records itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items, such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

Excellent

The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and /or creasing.

Very Good

The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

Good

The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.

Fair

The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents are torn, stained and/or defaced

Poor

The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents are badly damaged or partly missing.

Bad

The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler
