PHIL YOST “Bent City” 1967 USA Takoma ~ Twisted Hippie Free Jazz Psych Lp LISTEN
1967/USA/ Takoma Records C-1016 ….. here’s an original pressing of this rare lp. The cover is in good condition and has a full bottom seam split, partial top seam split at opening, tiny delete cut top right edge, ring and shelf wear, light staining front and back covers, small sticker tear front top right. The vinyl is in glossy clean strong VG++ condition. The vinyl looks very clean and glossy but does play with a little light occasional noise. The vinyl plays great. I have recorded a portion of the first side using no filters or cleaning. Clean labels have no spindle wear. A solid clean original pressing! Phil Yost was a mysterious West Coast hippie jazzbo who recorded three albums of totally out there and utterly charming jazz explorations: two albums — Bent City (1967) and Fog Hat Ramble (1968) — for John Fahey’s Santa Monica, CA label Takoma Records, and one for indie label North Star Records (which may very well be Yost’s own imprint as it claims only one release: Yost’s 1970 Touchwood’s Dream album). Among the many traditional folk and blues releases on Takoma, Phil Yost’s albums Bent City and Fog Hat Ramble are unique journeys into jazz improvisation, with all instruments played by Yost himself. On “Bent City I” — part one of the title track from the Bent City album — echo-saturated harpsichord notes ring out a menacing introduction before an electric guitar picks out a wandering psychedelic blues solo over what can best be described as a jazz raga. The overall effect is something like a Dave Pike Set warm up number. Totally groovy, recommended listening.

MINT: as stated with no defects
NEAR MINT: as stated near Mint!, or Mint Minus, same thing, very clean with no defect to sound or visual appearance, one scuff or mark may be permitted but it will be mentioned in the description, a near Mint record looks and plays very clean
EXCELLENT: not much below near Mint, may have a delete hole and/or a minor defect or two not visually detracting from the cover, the vinyl will appear shiny and in clean condition with very minor defects not affecting the sound, still very clean and very collectable!
VG++ still a very nice copy with minimal cover wear and/or delete/splits, still visually appealing, the vinyl will retain it's original gloss and can have some minor scuffs/scratches that don't affect play very much
VG+ a little more cover/ring wear and delete, splits etc., the vinyl will still retain much original gloss with a bit more scuffs and/or scratches I may list a very rare or desirable item with a lower grade, I will try to list all defects, both cover and vinyl no matter the condition.
