A truly excellent (at least) condition and eminently presentable copy of this amazingly rare and highly sought after 1967 UK 1st press psychedelic gem on the CBS label, 63129

The condition of the vinyl is a solid excellent (EX). Flat and nicely weighty, each side of the vinyl is glossy and has retained a beautiful jet black sheen. In normal daylight each side of the vinyl comes across as virtually unmarked, and it is only with close inspection under a bright light that just a few small, non-feelable, very light and strictly surface only scuff marks ("scuff" is probably too strong a word, more like slightly duller small areas) come into view on each side of the vinyl, each of which appears to be purely superficial (the impressive sound quality supports this view). I would include these light blemishes in a photo but they are too light to make visible! For a 54 year old piece of cherished vinyl such as this the appearance and condition remains truly impressive...clearly, this record has been sparingly played. 

The labels are pristine (NM). I cannot even detect the usual one or two small faint spindle trails adjacent to the centre hole on either label...perfect! Note that the band is referred to as "THE PICADILLY LANE" on these 1st pressings - later re-issues stated the band name as just "PICADILLY LINE".

The condition of the front-laminated Ernest J. Day non-flipback outer sleeve is excellent (EX). Such a beautiful and iconic sleeve but fragile and prone to wear and tear, making the wonderful condition of this copy even more impressive. Each edge remains firm with no scuffing at all, the opening edges are also firm with no fraying, each corner remains a nicely defined right angle, the spine remains rigid with all text legible, and the colours, art work, and reverse side photos and text all remain impressively intact with the front side 60's art work nothing less than gorgeous! The only blemishes (again, too strong a word) are a tiny nick on the front side towards the middle of the opening edge, a few very light 1-2cm laminate crinkles adjacent and perpendicular to the spine on the front edge (extremely trivial, and only visible when viewed in a bright light and with the sleeve tilted at an angle), some very minor rubbing on the bottom right corner, and just the hint of some very mild age discolouration on the reverse side next to the edges. Very impressive...there can't be many better.

The audio quality is excellent (EX). Great tone and clarity throughout with no distortion even on the higher frequencies and at higher volume. No sticks, jumps, repeats, or interference and every track makes for a great listen. No obvious clicks or background crackle either, though there is the occasional light background click which I can only put down to dust in the grooves through decades of storage; and there is just the hint of some very mild background crackle during a couple of the quieter moments and interludes...nothing intrusive though. I should add that when I first came across this record a few weeks ago the vinyl was very dusty and each time I have cleaned it the sound quality has improved - not that it was bad in the first place, it wasn't - but it just goes to show that a further careful clean may well eradicate completely the few light clicks and momentary light and non-intrusive crackles that do remain. An excellent listen, and "Visions Of Johanna" still sends shivers up my spine!

Comes complete with original and excellent condition CBS advertising inner sleeve with no seam splits - just a single, small 5mm tear on the top edge and some mild corner creasing, and remaining fully functional. Note that I always insert the vinyl into a separate new poly-lined inner sleeve for shipping purposes and in order to protect the original.

A terrific addition to any serious vinyl collection...1st pressings of this 60's psychedelic rock holy grail rarely come onto the market now, especially in condition as impressive as this.

On the subject of postage, I take great care in the packaging of all items, using a proper vinyl thick cardboard mailer, along with extra protective flange edges, with at least two thick cardboard stiffeners. I take great care in separating the record from the outer sleeve in order to help prevent sleeve damage in transit and I always insert the vinyl, outer sleeve and inner into a clear plastic sleeve, thus adding further protection.

Mint

The records itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items, such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

Excellent

The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and /or creasing.

Very Good

The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

Good

The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.

Fair

The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents are torn, stained and/or defaced

Poor

The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents are badly damaged or partly missing.

Bad

The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler

A small addition to the outer sleeve description : I have just noticed that there is a diagonal surface laminate crinkle towards the bottom right corner, with the faintest of show through on the reverse side (you can just make out a reverse side diagonal mark when the sleeve is held at the right angle in a good light, though even then most people would not be able to identify such a mark at all!); so, possibly, there may have been a slight bend at this location at some time in the past. It's not obvious, it's very trivial, but I should have included this in my description - hence this amendment. I still grade the condition of the outer sleeve as "excellent", by the way. Richard
