Description
This is a very rare first issue mono press of A Saucerful Of Secrets. It is pressed on the blue/black Columbia label - complete with E.J. Day flipback laminated cover. This is also one of the first mono pressings in that the 'bible' of all things Pink Floyd - pinkfloydarchives.com has it as number 7 on their 'matrix listing'.

Having listened to the entire LP I am actually surprised at the audio quality. I say that due to the number of hairlines and some scuff marks on the vinyl and it has obviously been well played. 'Let There Be More Light' does have one pop and plays with some light crackle. The remainder of the side plays in a similar way with some static but has no skips or jumps. 'Corporal Clegg' has more interference in that it does have a fair level of distortion but of course I'm playing it through my stereo system which may account for that to some degree.
'Saucerful...' plays with light static throughout but isn't particularly obtrusive. There are light clicks at the beginning and more distortion towards the end but overall a good listen with no jumps or skips. 'See-Saw' plays with light crackle again. 'Jugband Blues' plays with more crackle but again no jumps.
For nearly 50 years of age you expect some deterioration in audio quality if the vinyl has been well played and this one is no exception. The distortion is probably due to a mono LP being played on a stereo system. Best not place a bid if you want a Near Mint copy (not many of those around!) but it is certainly playable and for its rarity value is a great classic LP to own.
The laminated Ernest J. Day flipback cover is in excellent condition. It does have some handling wear on the opening edge and a little shelf wear on the edges but there are no splits or tears at all and no writing on it either. As is common with laminated covers there are a few creases but they are not really noticeable unless you go looking for them! The edges are in wonderful condition and the thin pinched spine still looks great and is perfectly legible. On the reverse the flipback has to be the best I have seen. No dirt or staining around the edges of the flipback which you often see, just a few minor creases. On the flipback top right is 'File under Popular : Pop Groups' with the mono catalogue number SX 6258 underneath. Overall an excellent Mono cover with only minor wear, which is pretty good for nearly half a century old!
Gilmour is written as "GILMORE" on both the record label and cover
The rare blue/black labels are in excellent condition with only minor spindle wear and no marks or writing at all. Side One has the tax stamp KT which again denotes the vinyl as one of the first early pressings.
Sadly it does not contain the original inner sleeve.
Play tested on my Technics SL-J110R turntable system.
