PINK FLOYD : A SAUCERFUL OF SECRETS (1st stereo pressing on Blue/Black Columbia label)
This mega rare first stereo pressing visually is in stunning condition and includes the best original flipback cover I have ever seen. The bible of all things Pink Floyd - pinkfloydarchives.com has it as no 10 on their matrix listing so you can see just how rare it is. The rare blue/black Columbia labels are both in fabulous condition. Gilmour is printed as Gilmore on both the labels and the cover.

Visual grading
For an LP approaching half a century it is visually in amazing condition. It has a wonderful glossy sheen still after all these years with only one fine hairline of any note on Side Two. For such a rare LP with the blue Columbia logo I have not seen better. As described in my play grading below there is however background crackle to be heard which a professional clean could perhaps improve.
Play grading
'Let There Be More Light' does begin with some obvious crackle but then decreases a great deal to play with a background noise that is not not that intrusive. The playback is still loud and clear and has no pops or jumps. 'Remember A Day' has light static again and a couple of faint clicks in the middle due to a very tiny white speck that refuses to be removed! 'Set The Controls...' again plays with some background crackle but remains a very good listen. Whilst 'Corporal Clegg' plays with some distortion as is common with final tracks where the grooves are pressed closer together it still plays with excellent clarity and depth.
The intro to 'Saucerful...' on Side Two plays with crackle and one small skip but then the background noise does decrease and plays with audio that resonates well and plays very clearly. 'See-Saw' and 'Jugband Blues' play well with clear audio with a little distortion and static again.
In summary whilst the vinyl is visually stunning it does play with some background interference but considering its age and rarity that is hardly surprising. It is a more than acceptable listen and perhaps with a professional clean the audio could be improved.
Laminated cover
The laminated G & L flipback cover is superbly clean and without doubt one of the best I have ever seen. The edges and thin pinched spine are in fantastic condition with no shelf wear and there is only a little rubbing on the corners. This cover really has been extremely well looked after. The laminate on the front cover remains in great shape with no bubbling or splits anywhere, just a few very minor creases that you would expect after nearly 50 years. The three flipbacks on the reverse are in stunning condition and have no staining whatsoever which is so common with this LP. I cannot stress enough just how good this mega rare cover is, it is so clean and only has a little handling wear on the opening edge.
On the flipback top right is 'File under Popular : Pop Groups' and underneath is SCX 6258 (stereo). Overall a stunning cover that would grace any collection. As per the very early presses it has 'Gilmore' on the tracklisting.
Labels
The blue/black Columbia labels are in wonderful condition and rarely have I seen better. At the bottom of the label it states "Made in Gt. Britain" and around the edge "The Gramophone Co., Ltd. All rights of the manufacturer and of the owner of the recorded work reserved. Unauthorised public performance, broadcasting, and copying of this record prohibited".
Inner sleeve
The original die cut inner sleeve is included and has the reddish brown printing on cream coloured paper advertising 'Sgt Peppers' and 'Piper' amongst others. It is in superb shape with no splits or tears, only minor creasing. Play tested on my Technics SL-J110R turntable system
