Pink Floyd : A Saucerful Of Secrets 1/1 1st Stereo Press Blue COLUMBIA Single Stampers
This first pressing is one of the finest I have ever discovered in all my years hunting down and selling records! In a sense this is not surprising because not only is the vinyl visually stunning but it has also been so well preserved over the last 58 years. It cannot have been played very much as there is only minimal spindle wear and the sonic quality backs up that theory. There are no clicks or pops and just one very quiet tick on the final track. There is only minimal light static and there is certainly nothing that stands out. 'Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun' is of course so quiet and yet is plays so clearly as do the quieter sections on the epic title track. 'Corporal Clegg' is a genuine highlight as it plays with a clarity and definition you rarely find on these first pressings. There is barely any inner groove distortion, maybe none! The clarity, depth, power and warmth of the audio of the audio on both sides is very impressive to say the least.
The laminated G & L Patents Pending cover is in superb condition with minimal wear and the original inner sleeve remains in very good order with only a little wear. This is a stunning all round package!
This is also one of the earlier first pressings as it has only a single stamper on each side as you can see.

Visual description
The vinyl is stunning and still has a lovely glossy sheen with no marks or scratches. Under a bright light I can only see a relatively small number of very faint sleeve removal hairlines and there is nothing that stands out. There is no groove or surface wear and the run out grooves are so clean also. The blue Columbia labels are unmarked and have only minimal spindle wear on each side. It is easily one of the finest examples I have ever seen. This particular version has no KT tax stamp on either label.
Play grading
The run in on S1 is incredibly clean and the entire intro on 'Let There Be More Light' then plays with stunning clarity and definition, there is no background at all. As it slows down the audio is still just as strong and clear and the opening vocal plays perfectly. The first chorus has no intrusion and it continues in the same precise way. I heard a couple of minor statics but you could easily miss them as they are so quiet. The psychedelic end section is of course so busy and yet the audio is still so clean and 'fresh' sounding, there is no loss in sonic quality and no distortion either. Even the long fade out plays with sublime clarity. This is a phenomenal Mint- start to the album and I'm not entirely sure the minus is required!
The intro on 'Remember A Day' is so clean and sharply defined and Wright's first vocal is faultless. The instrumental bridge is equal to that and the second verse is has no background... again. The quiet Why can't we play today vocal has a couple of very quiet statics and the following instrumental again has zero intrusion. The final vocal passage plays with exceptional clarity and warmth and the closing section is just stunning including the fade out. So far I cannot overstate just how immaculate the audio is and Mint- is once again deserved here.
The super quiet intro on 'Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun' is so often affected by static (or worse!) but it plays beautifully here. It's at its quietest right at the start of course and yet the clarity of sound is outstanding and this 'level' continues into the first vocal section. There is perhaps just a minimal touch of distortion at the beginning of the repeated heart of the sun section but it's a minor issue and really not intrusive. There is barely any of the static distortion that you so often find. The following instrumental plays with wonderful clarity including the seagulls (!) and the final verse / heart of the sun section plays very clearly with only the lightest of background static, intermittent only. The closing instrumental plays with great clarity - the overriding feeling is of a very clean version and it has to be one of the finest I have ever heard. There are no ticks, clicks or pops and an overall grade of Near Mint- is a fair assessment of the audio.
'Corporal Clegg' is regularly impacted by static / inner groove distortion but this version is STUNNING! It is one of the most clean, clinical versions I have ever listened to and it may well be the BEST! In a way it's the vocals that stand out because it's on them where you find the distortion but... not here! Perhaps a slightly muffled sound but that's just the way it was recorded / produced and the instrumental sections are incredible. For example the closing instrumental is mind-blowing! I don't want to over-enthuse but audio does not get any better than this! The brief 'industrial' ending has no intrusion either. I have no hesitation in grading this classic as Mint- and is the definitive version you could say.

The slow build up intro on 'A Saucerful Of Secrets' once again impresses on so many levels. There is only the lightest of static here and there and there are certainly no ticks, clicks or pops. As the organ comes in the audio is crystal clear and this section continues to play with only the bare minimum of light static, nothing intrusive. As the volume builds the audio is very strong and clear and there is no distortion on the top end. The brief pause is completely silent and when Mason joins in around the four minute mark the playback cannot be faulted, the clarity of sound is stunning. This entire percussive section plays to such a high end standard and I only a couple of seconds of static distortion at the height of the higher octane moments. The deep 'throbbing' resonant section is superb and and the beginning of the organ 'recital' could not play any better, the clarity is just amazing! You can perfectly hear all the 'percussive' elements in the background and there is literally no background. The solo organ / bass section is very clean with only a small number of mega quiet statics and the choral section then plays with exceptional clarity and depth and with barely any background. It builds in spectacular style - rich, deep audio with great power and warmth and I was kind of hearing things I haven't heard before that's how clean the audio is! There's a psychedelic swirling type sound I have just noticed before. Strange! It ends with perfect audio and overall I believe Near Mint- is well deserved here. A superb version in so many ways.
'See-Saw' plays so clearly with no intrusion. This track often affected by a 'muddy' type sound I find but the playback here is very impressive. The opening two verses are nigh on perfect as is the first chorus and it continues to play with outstanding audio. Sit back and imagine yourself back in the halcyon days of late 60s psychedelia! There are no ticks, clicks or pops and no underlying static either. It has to grade as Near Mint
Syd's opening vocal on 'Jugband Blues' is 'as new' and the first chorus is equal to that. The clarity, depth and warmth of the audio is superb and there is no inner groove distortion either. The first instrumental interlude incorporating the la la la vocal section is faultless and the final brass section is close to that with just one minor tick near the beginning. The emotive end vocal has no background at all, a fitting end to a classic album. Near Mint
The Cover & Inner Sleeve
The laminated G & L Patents Pending cover is in lovely condition with only very minimal shelf wear. The edges and thin pinched spine are unmarked and in perfect shape and only the bottom right corner has a little rubbing, the other three are in excellent order. The opening edge has minimal handling wear and the front cover is superb with only a couple of small laminate creases near the right edge and some of the usual small edge creases next to the spine. The unlaminated back cover has been so well preserved with no marking / fading and the flipbacks remain firmly attached to the cover with none of the marking / staining that you so often see on the edges. The bottom edge has only the lightest of rubbing but it seems harsh to even mention it! Some small creases on the flipbacks also but overall this is a superb example of this iconic cover.
The original EMI inner is in very good condition but is very clean overall. It has one 8-10cm side split and the previous owner has also written the album title and The Pink Floyd in one corner! That really does authenticate it putting The at the front! It has minimal marking and creasing.

I will only send items items worldwide via tracked shipping. This provides 'peace of mind' in case of loss or damage. The shipping costs are shown below and combined shipping is always offered. Any over-payment will always be refunded.
The Royal Mail only insure up to a value of £250 so if an item sells for more it may be wise to use a courier service (e.g. Parcelforce or DPD). An extra insurance premium will be required but I will not know the exact amount until the final sale price is known. Because of this I will sometimes have to estimate the cost and this will be shown in the listing. All vinyls are packaged in strong over-sized custom made mailers with plenty of extra cardboard protection. They are placed inside separate poly-lined inners outside the cover so as to avoid seam splits in transit and then placed inside a PVC sleeve to provide even more protection. I pride myself on my high quality packaging as my feed confirms and if any customer has any specific requirements I am more than happy to help.
The mailers I use cost £1.00 each and I will use anything between 3-5 cardboard stiffeners which cost approx £0.18 each. There is also the cost of the poly-lined inner and PVC sleeve to consider, it all adds up! Not forgetting that eBay take 10% of the shipping fee also!!
