Atom Heart Mother is a relatively neglected gem in Pink Floyd's early discography. At the time, however, it went to #1 in the UK, and after the success of Dark Side of the Moon, attracted a wider audience outside of Europe. For Pink Floyd fans, I highly recommend this album. It contains not a weak track, and is very diverse. The title track is Pink Floyd's first stab at a side long song over twenty minutes, and it succeeds gloriously. (Ummagumma contained some long tracks, but they were live versions of previously recorded music.) Although wordless, the chorus and orchestra combine into the rock and roll equivalent of Wagnerian majesty. Three shorter songs with vocals follow. "If" is a pastoral delight. The catchy Summer of '68 picks up the pace and was a single in Japan. Fat Old Sun is another folk-influenced gem. The CD ends with Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast, likely the track with the most lasting popularity. The song is an instrumental bridge between Pink Floyd's psychedelic past and the keyboard laden music that would follow in future releases.(review rateyourmusic.com)
VINYL: EX+. I can only say this is in fantastic upgrade condition, plays with no distortion, no jumps, barely played. The vinyl looks just pristine. There is a deep glossy, just over the counter, sheen and this album has been preserved well over the decades by a dedicated prog collector inside a custom made cabinet for decades. Just wispy paper retraction traces, only visible under a very strong light. Please few all pictures for a true impression of this beautiful classic. I have played it on my Linn Sondek Arcam set up and it sounded gorgeous with the fullest possible audio as only a true first press ever can with barely any static at all. A true upgrade if there ever was one.
GATEFOLD SLEEVE : EX. UK 1st Press matt sleeve by Garrod & Lofthouse Ltd. Hard to find this sleeve without creases, but here it is. A fantastic sleeve with just one catalogue sticker with number to the front right. Otherwise it is as great as you could wish it to be. The inside gatefold is NM. The spine is fully legible and the opening is nice and crisp. This album also retains the original inner Harvest advertising sleeve which is hard to find these days. it still has its inner polythene lining fully attached. NO seam splits, NO writing, NO tears etc.
