Description
Up for auction is one of the rarest and most highly sought
after Pink Floyd records I have ever had the pleasure of owning (and trust me, at
one time or another I’ve owned nearly all of the Pink Floyd “Holy Grail’s).
This is the UK 1st Press Dark Side
of the Moon with solid blue triangles. This rare gem is in acceptable collectors shape and comes complete with all posters and stickers.
Condition:
The record itself is in good shape; it maintains its beautiful
luster. There are a few minor surface scratches that do not cause skips. There
is also a super light warp that is mostly unnoticeable until it is spinning on the
platter and DOES NOT AFFECT PLAY- the needle stays right in the groove with no
alteration of the sound. There is also light groove wear that does not affect
play. Visually, I would grade this album as VG. Listening to it all the way
through on my Pro Ject Debut III with Ortofon Pro cartridge/stylus, I would
Play- grade this album as EX; there is nearly no surface noise throughout the entire
record except a few light pops/ticks. I've
had numerous copies of this album including the Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab UHQR
(look it up if you don’t know what that is) and I’ve always preferred this copy
of the UK first press- simply stunning sound quality.
The labels are in VG/VG+ condition- there are light spindle
trails and a small mark on side 1.
The jacket is in acceptable shape- I would grade the jacket as
VG/VG- condition due to wear on the spine, ring wear, fading and general
wear. This is a conservative grading- there are copies currently on eBay with
50+ watchers in much worse shape and graded as VG++ This is the “double
gatefold” type jacket that opens on both sides of the gatefold (some just open
on the back side while the front side is glued shut).
The posters and stickers are original (darker blue tint on
the pyramid poster, not green like on the US and later UK pressings). These are
intact with no pin holes on the corners. The stickers remain unused with the
backings affixed. Posters and stickers have remained housed in plastic wraps in
order to preserve their good condition.
This is definitely a collector’s album, whether it be for
filler (just to have in order to fill a gap in a collection) or to play
regularly. The flaws of this album mentioned in the descriptions are not too
big a concern even to a picky collector like me. If you are looking for a
perfect copy of this rare, beautiful and elusive record than please, pay the
$1,500-$2,000 for a Near Mint copy. Do not expect the flaws I’ve described to
magically disappear because of unrealistic expectations. I have priced this
record accordingly to the flaws mentioned- and remember, there are NO RETURNS
ACCEPTED. I do however promise that this
record sounds wonderful with little pops or ticks- just clean music that fills
the room.
I will package this record very carefully in a thick
paper/plastic lined sleeve outside of the jacket (in order to keep the original
black UK sleeve and the jacket safe). I will put both the record and the jacket
in a thick plastic cover and place it between two thick pieces of cardboard. I
will then place the cardboard protected record in a standard record mailer and
tape it tight enough that the whole thing does not move around inside.
Shipping (US) is USPS Priority, insured for the full amount
with delivery confirmation. International shipping, is 1st class International. If you would like tracked/insured international shipping this can be arranged but is about double the cost. I will not ship to Italy, parts of Africa, or Brazil because of shipping issues- THERE ARE NO RETURNS ACCEPTED.
