Delicate Sound of Thunder

This very rare double vinyl LP is in stunning condition and is without doubt the best I have ever seen and heard.  Issued in the UK in 1988 it has been barely played and the gatefold remains in near pristine condition.

Visual grading

The vinyls have always been kept in polylined inners which explains how they have been so well preserved after nearly 30 years.  They both retain that lovely glossy sheen of new vinyl and whilst I could detect a handful of fine hairlines and a couple of 'bag rash areas' they remain in superb condition as my play grading below confirms.  There is a little spindle wear so the vinyls have obviously been played but the previous owner looked after them so well that the audio quality has not deteriorated in any way.

Play grading

'Shine  On...' starts Side One with almost zero static and then plays with near Mint quality throughout.  There is no background noise at all.  Turn the lights off, turn it up loud and it feels like you are there!!  What always strikes me with well preserved copies of this LP is how 'loud' it was recorded and how high in the mix the bass sound is.  In my opinion this is one of the best produced live albums ever.  The quality continues on the rest of the side.  This vinyl plays like new confirming just how well it has been cared for during the last 28 years.

Side Two continues where S1 left off.  The audio is again breathtakingly good and there are no clicks, pops or jumps to speak of.  The quiet intro to 'On The Turning Away' plays without fault, as does the rest of the track and is a real highlight.

Sides Three and Four begin with the slightest of static but to be honest you often hear this on new vinyl.  Suffice to say the audio across both sides is impeccable and I cannot describe just how good the sound is.  The clarity, depth and as I have described the superb resonance is second to none.  I don't think it is an exaggeration to say the quality of these vinyls could not be bettered.

Gatefold cover

The gatefold cover has been so well preserved that at first glance it appears totally Mint.  The edges and wide spine are superbly clean and there are only a handful of tiny creases towards the top edge.  It would be difficult to find a better 'Delicate Sound' gatefold.  The opening edges and inside cover are also in pristine condition and the back of the cover only has a few fine scratch type marks over a small area that are only visible under a certain light anyway.  It does not detract from what is a superb gatefold.

Inner sleeves

Both inners are immaculate and as new as the day they were first produced.

Labels

  The labels are in superb condition with only a little spindle wear.
