Description
For sale here is a super copy of Pink Floyds iconic "Dark side of the moon" album. Comes with all the attributes of an original second UK pressing.
Black gatefold cover, original, no barcode etc. Matrices are A3 and B2. (STAMPERS ROG & RDM). Correct "Gramophone Co Ltd" text around label rims. Both posters on a semi-matte paper. Both crack-back stickers
This is a quite lovely example of this iconic and highly collectable album and has quite early mother and stamper combinations. The A3 / B2 matrices followed directly on from the famous A2 / B2 UK first press. For those that cannot run to a first pressing, this is a great option and the sound quality on this example is absolutely sensational and runs it quite close.
What is quite unusual to find, is a copy with the vinyl in exceptional condition like this one. The only real signs of it being played is the odd light spindle mark to the labels. No marks on the vinyl worthy of note. I will give a detailed description of each part below.
The cover: Original and genuine black cover, correct for the album pressing, no barcode. This is a lovely example of this often damaged original cover. There is almost no indication of shelf-wear or damage to the spine. The internal is pretty faultless too, and has a disc impression just starting to form in one quadrant of the rear face. A really beautiful and solid example. I grade this cover as excellent (Ex).
Inner sleeve: Generic white die-cut inner. Charcoal font showing patent number and made in Great Britain text. Some age discolouration, but no rips, slits or tears. I grade the inner sleeve as strong very good (VG).
Posters: Both posters are present. Both are in great condition. No pin holes. No blue tack. No splits, rips, tears or issues. Printed on a semi-matte paper, unlike the glossy later versions. I grade both posters as excellent (Ex).
Stickers: Both stickers are present and in fantastic undamaged condition. No creases, marks or wear. Just a really nice pair. I grade both stickers as excellent (Ex).
The labels: The iconic prism labels are in really good shape. There are a couple of light spindle trails to both sides when viewed at an angle in good lighting. No rips or stains. These have "The Gramophone Co Ltd" text around the rims, as per UK 2nd press. I grade the labels as excellent (Ex).
The vinyl: Really the vinyl is the cream of this copy. It sits completely flat to the platter and weighs in at a very healthy 140 grams. Visually I cannot see any marks of note in normal lighting conditions. Under harsh electric light I can see a feint hairline on the track "Money", but this has no effect at all on the superb audio. The vinyl has a wonderful depth of shine and a gorgeous black lustre. Rarely have I seen one as clean as this. As a visual appraisal, I grade as a solid excellent (Ex).
PLAY-GRADING: The audio on this copy is fantastic. It is extremely close to being without fault. I made the following comments in my play-grade notebook:- The notoriously difficult heartbeat intro plays in near silence. The whole of side one plays without fault, with one small exception. The segue between tracks 3 and 4 has 5 very light clicks which can be heard. Apart from this one minor issue, the whole side plays with Silence between tracks and quieter passages. An absolute joy to listen to. Side two is every bit as good or better. I commented on the silence throughout. This side plays pretty much like a brand new copy. Over the two sides there are NO skips, NO sticks and NO surface crackle. This is probably the cleanest copy I have heard. Ever. I grade side 1 a strong excellent (Ex) and side 2 a very strong excellent plus (Ex+).
The sound throughout is dynamic and vibrant. Clarity and detail are sensational. This is an incredible sounding album and would grace any collection.
As a complete and original second UK pressing with the A3 and B2 matrix numbers, low mothers and stampers, correct cover, stickers and posters, I really have to grade overall as at the very least excellent. Somebody is going to be very happy!!
I will post overseas, although I have had issues in the past from both Russia and Mexico, so will not post to either. I have listed the price for UK postage only. If an overseas ebayer wants this, it will be through the Ebay "Global shipping programme" which may seem expensive (I do not set the prices!) but it takes into account all taxes and duties plus insurance. I DO NOT make anything on the postage. I charge the exact cost (often less) that I pay. I DO NOT charge for packing materials and I try to use recycled packing anyway. If the postage cost is less than my quoted figures, I will refund the excess as soon as I have the exact price. I also dress all my albums in a brand new heavyweight plastic cover and a brand new anti-static inner sleeve. All vinyl is packed outside of the cover and 2 stiffeners are used in transit. I have sold many valuable vinyls over the years and am often credited with Fort Knox style packing. Please bid with peace of mind that what you see is what you get.
If you have any questions, require extra photos, please just ask. Album will be posted same day the payment is made if early enough, or at worst the next day.
