Description

This is the very rare first issue Mono press of The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn.  It is pressed on the blue/black Columbia label  - complete with E.J. Day flipback laminated cover.

I have play tested this Mono LP on my the stereo system and overall the the audio is very impressive.  There is some crackle at the beginning of 'Astronomy Domine' although this does lessen as the track progresses.  There is light crackle throughout but it is not obtrusive in any way and it plays without any skips or jumps and for a vinyl approaching 50 years old that is quite a result!  There are no scratches just some fine hairlines and in my opinion this is one of the best Side Ones I have heard of this classic LP. 
Side Two does have one scratch across the first half of 'Interstellar Overdrive' that does cause some light clicks.  There is a finer scratch also on the same track although this does not affect the audio.  The latter half plays very well with only light crackle and again plays with no skips or jumps.  'The Gnome' plays with wonderful audio for such a quiet track.  'Chapter 24' plays with the same quality except for slightly more background noise on the second half.  'Bike' I would say suffers the most audio wise and has some 'rasping' half way through probably due to a 'water type' mark on this track.
Visually the record is in excellent condition.  Under a bright light Side One especially looks very clean with only the lightest of hairlines.  Side Two as described does have a couple of more noticeable scratches although in my opinion they do not detract too much from the audio quality.  It lies perfectly flat on the turntable and is certainly one of better ones I have seen and heard. 
  The laminated Ernest J. Day flipback cover is certainly one of the best I have seen with only minor wear.  There is no writing or any tears at all.  There is the obligatory creasing on the laminate and some staining on the the edging of the flipback but as anyone knows this is generally the case with this cover.  The creasing I hasten to add is in no way major and is only obvious if you look closely.  The edges are in excellent condition with hardly any shelf wear and the same can be said for the thin pinched spine.  The opening edge does have a little handling wear and the top and bottom does have some more rubbing.  There are a few very small marks on the reverse near to the opening edge but I only mention this to give an honest and fair appraisal of the cover.  They are only very faint.  
On the flipback top right is 'File under Popular : Pop Groups' and underneath is SX 6157 the mono catalogue number.  The labels are in excellent condition with only light spindle wear and Side One has the KT tax imprint either side of the centre hole.  At the bottom of the label it states "Made in Gt. Britain".  "The Pink Floyd" is printed below the tracklisting on each side and of course it has the famous blue Columbia label.    
The original inner sleeve is also included and has the reddish brown printing on cream coloured paper.  It is in very good condition with only light staining with age and a very small split at the bottom.
