PINK FLOYD PIPER AT THE GATES OF DAWN MONO First Pressing
You are viewing my rarely seen MONO vinyl album recorded on the (blue) COLUMBIA label from 1967 by PINK FLOYD entitled, 'PIPER AT THE GATES OF DAWN'.
"The Piper at the Gates of Dawn is the début album by the English rock group Pink Floyd, and the only one made under founding member Syd Barrett's leadership. The album contains whimsical lyrics about space, scarecrows, gnomes, bicycles and fairy tales, along with psychedelic instrumental songs. The album was initially released in 1967 by Columbia/EMI in the United Kingdom."
The Pink Floyd at that time comprised of: Syd Barrett, Roger Waters, Richard Wright and Nick Mason.
The album contains the following tracks:
Side One:
- Astronomy Domine
- Lucifer Sam
- Matilda Mother
- Flaming
- Pow R Toc H
- Take up thy stethoscope and walk
Side Two:
- Interstellar overdrive
- The Gnome
- Chapter 24
- Scarecrow
- Bike
This album itself was made in Great Britain and has the reference number of SX 6157. It has the matrix number of XAX 3419-2 (side one) and XAX 3420-1 (side two), indicating this is a first pressing recording. I don't really understand the 'Mother Stampers' numbers, however on side one at the 9 o'clock position is the number '1', at the 3 o'clock position are the letters 'G G'; on side two, at the 9 o'clock position is the figure '1', at the 3 o'clock position are the letters 'G P'. There are the 'K T' tax code letters located on the centre label to side one.
The record itself is in very good condition. There are some light surface marks to both sides and although this does produce some 'crackle' on quieter parts of the recording, it does not detract from the music and there are no sticks or jumps. The record plays perfectly, although I do note that the record is not completely 'flat', there is a very slight rise to one small section of the record - I guarantee you that this does not affect the sound quality of the recording. I critically grade this album as VG+/EX.
The album cover is the original front laminated 'flipback' version made by Ernest J Day Ltd. As the photograph shows, there is some very minimal wear to the edges and corners and a few minor creases to the front cover and spine. The reverse has some age discolouration. Despite my cover description, I would say this is a good example and would again critically grade it as VG+/EX.
The inner sleeve is the original EMI sleeve that was supplied with the record when new. The sleeve has some age discolouration and has a small split located at the base.
This album will be posted in a good quality 'cruciform' style record mailer.
