PINK FLOYD PIPER AT THE GATES OF DAWN MONO First Pressing

You are viewing my rarely seen MONO vinyl album recorded on the (blue) COLUMBIA label from 1967 by PINK FLOYD entitled, 'PIPER AT THE GATES OF DAWN'.

"The Piper at the Gates of Dawn is the début album by the English rock group Pink Floyd, and the only one made under founding member Syd Barrett's leadership. The album contains whimsical lyrics about space, scarecrows, gnomes, bicycles and fairy tales, along with psychedelic instrumental songs. The album was initially released in 1967 by Columbia/EMI in the United Kingdom."

The Pink Floyd at that time comprised of: Syd Barrett, Roger Waters, Richard Wright and Nick Mason.

The album contains the following tracks:

Side One:

  • Astronomy Domine
  • Lucifer Sam
  • Matilda Mother
  • Flaming
  • Pow R Toc H
  • Take up thy stethoscope and walk

Side Two:

  • Interstellar overdrive
  • The Gnome
  • Chapter 24
  • Scarecrow
  • Bike

This album itself was made in Great Britain and has the reference number of SX 6157. It has the matrix number of XAX 3419-2 (side one) and XAX 3420-1 (side two), indicating this is a first pressing recording.  I don't really understand the 'Mother Stampers' numbers, however on side one at the 9 o'clock position is the number '1', at the 3 o'clock position are the letters 'G A'; on side two, at the 9 o'clock position is the figure '1', at the 3 o'clock position are the letters 'G H'.  There are the 'K T' tax code letters located on the centre label to side one.

The record itself is in extremely good condition.  There are some light surface marks to both sides and although this does produce some 'crackle' and the odd 'tick' on quieter parts of the recording, it does not detract from the music and there are no sticks or jumps.  I critically grade this album as VG+/EX.

The album cover is the original front laminated 'flipback' version made by Ernest J Day & Co.Ltd.  As the photograph shows, there is only minimal wear to the corners and a few minor creases to the front cover.  The spine and edges remain free of any creasing and the reverse has no real age discolouration.  I would say this is an extremely good example and would critically grade it at least VG+/EX.

This album is the best example of this very rare record that I have ever offered for sale.  Although not in mint condition, the cover is excellent and the record plays very well.  It will be posted in a good quality record mailer.

PLEASE NOTE: This record will be posted by Special Delivery free of charge in the U.K. and subsidised International Signed For, for all overseas posting.
