Description
This is the very rare first issue Stereo press of The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn. It is pressed on the blue/black Columbia label - complete with E.J. Day flipback laminated cover. The stereo press is actually more rare than the mono press as was pressed in lesser numbers.

I have play tested this LP on my the stereo system and overall the the audio is very impressive. There are a couple of pops at the beginning of 'Astronomy Domine' but then plays with excellent clarity for a record near 50 years old! There is light static to be heard but it is only intermittent. This is probably one of the best Side Ones I have heard of this extremely rare LP. A little distortion as is very common but it plays without any skips or jumps and overall plays very cleanly with very little crackle. Visually it is also in excellent condition and under a bright light I can only see 3/4 faint hairlines.
Side Two begins with a classic version of 'Interstellar Overdrive'. I say that because it probably the best I have heard on a first stereo press. It begins with no lead in static which is incredible and plays with virtually no crackle just a little distortion. There is a scuff type mark right at the end of 'The Gnome' and for the first minute of 'Chapter 24' which causes some clicks unfortunately. Both 'Scarecrow' and and 'Bike' play extremely well with no jumps just the obligatory distortion again. Side Two visually is not quite as good as Side One but overall, other than the clicks as stated, it still plays with great clarity and separation. It lies perfectly flat on the turntable and is certainly one of better ones I have seen and heard.
The laminated Ernest J. Day flipback cover is one of the best I have seen with only minor wear. There is no writing or any tears at all. There is a little creasing on the laminate and some wear on the corners, a little more on the bottom opening edge. The creasing I hasten to add is in no way major and is only obvious if you look closely and the edges are extremely clean with hardly any shelf wear. The thin pinched spine has a couple of small 'nicks' but is still in excellent condition. There is also one small spot of what looks like silver paint but not that noticeable really. The reverse side has light marking but what makes it stand out is that the flipback has barely any staining which is very common with this cover and is one of the cleanest I have seen.
On the flipback top right is 'File under Popular : Pop Groups' and underneath is SCX 6157 the stereo catalogue number. The labels are in excellent condition with only light spindle wear. At the bottom of the label it states "Made in Gt. Britain". "The Pink Floyd" is printed below the tracklisting on each side and of course it has the famous blue Columbia label.
The original inner sleeve is also included and has the reddish brown printing on cream coloured paper. It is in excellent condition with no rips or tears. Play tested on my Technics SL-J110R turntable system
