Description
PIPER AT THE GATES OF DAWN - PINK FLOYD MONO FIRST PRESS !! XAX 3419-2/3420-1 MATRIX Year:1967 Cat: SX 6157
- On offer here is one of the most sought after psychedelic albums from the 60's and Floyd's first album. This is one of the earliest first presses from 1M and 1G stampers!
- The laminated flipback sleeve by Ernest J Day & Co is the true first press sleeve without "File under popular" on the back. It is in great condition. The front is flat and shiny with only minor thumb creases towards the edge under strong light. The spine and both top and bottom laminated edges are rigid and straight with no wear at all! The sleeve opening has only the slightest of feathering! The rear of the sleeve has no writing and one minor corner crease visible. The white laminate seam has a thin line of grubbiness all round but this does not detract at all from the overall quality. Sleeve is graded critically as EX-
- The correct EMI picture advertising inner sleeve is flat with very slight browning under strong light and a split approx 12cm long in the middle of one side edge. Graded VG.
- The disc itself is an early press with the correct first press matrices listed above. Visually the vinyl still has great gloss with the very slightest of paper scuffs and hairlines visible under strong light. The blue/silver labels are bright clear and unmarked. Side 1 label is embossed with the KT tax code. Both sides have some spindle trails but this record has not been overplayed. Visually graded EX. When played both sides have light crackle on the lead ins which disappears as the music starts. Based on the spindle trails, Side 1 has been played more than Side 2. All 6 tracks on Side 1 play fine, there is slight noise between tracks and at the end of Track 3 that's all. Play graded EX- Side 2 has less noise between tracks and is Play graded EX.
- I have been as critical as possible in describing this rare record! Overall the sound is superb with no jumps, pops or nasties and a great listening experience! Dont miss this rare chance!
- The photos should show enough detail but please contact me if any more information is needed.

------------------------------------------------------------
My records are graded in accordance with Record Collector's Grading System as follows:
EXCELLENT (EX): The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.
VERY GOOD (VG): The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.
GOOD (G): The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc
