PINK FLOYD ''RELICS'' 1ST UK PRESSING CAT NO. SRS 5071 1969 ON THE ORIGINAL BLUE 'STARLINE' LABELS  WITH THE GRAMOPHONE CO. TEXT! THE AWESOME PLAYING SURFACE! LOOKS BARELY PLAYED!  1ST PRESS A-1 and B-2 MATRIX! AWESOME ORIGINAL TEXTURED GARROD & LOFTHOUSE TEXTURED COVER RARELY SEEN NEAR PRISTINE! ABSOLUTELY AWESOME TOP, CRISTAL CLEAR AUDIO ON ALL FREQUENCIES!!!!

Another from my personal collection. This is the original 1st UK pressing on the Starline labels! Features the Gramophone co rim text (later press feature EMI records) Rarely seen in this absolutely awesome top condition! Normally the cover is badly worn due to its flimsy nature, but not this one almost as good as new! The thick cut slab of vinyl is also awesome! There is no loud clicks or pops during the audio! Becoming very collectable and sought after like this!!

Relics is a compilation album by Pink Floyd released in 1971. The album was released on May 14 in the UK and July 15 in the United States. A re-mastered CD was released in 1996 with a different album cover; a three-dimensional version of the original sketch drawn by drummer Nick Mason for the initial release!!!

The release of Relics was sparked by the success of Atom Heart Mother which peaked at #1 on the British charts. The album has been released on numerous occasions, and at times without the proper authority. One such incident involved EMI Australia releasing the album without the band's consent. This led to the LP being withdrawn and the album as a result became a rarity. A reissue of the album in 1996 meant that it could be purchased easily again.!!

Until the more definitive release of The Early Singles (1992), Relics was most noted for its inclusion of Syd Barrett-era hit singles, "Arnold Layne" and "See Emily Play", as well as B-sides to three other singles. It is notable that the Relics versions of "Paintbox" and "Julia Dream" are mixed in stereo. Relics has the only CD release of "Paintbox" that has the same length (3:33) that the original single version had; on the albums The Early Singles (1992), 1967 The First Three Singles (1997), and the 40th anniversary edition of The Piper at the Gates of Dawn (2007), it fades out about 13 seconds later!!

The album cover was designed by drummer Nick Mason, and according to him is the only concrete product of his years at architecture school in the Regent Street Polytechnic!!.

When the album was released on CD, former Hipgnosis partner Storm Thorgerson had a real-life version of the contraption on the cover made and presented it to Mason. It still resides in Mason's office. Both Thorgerson and his assistant, Peter Curzon, came up with the idea after viewing the head sculpture which had been constructed by John Robertson and which appeared on The Division Bell album sleeve!!!.

In addition to variations on the original design, the album was released in several countries with completely different artwork (see illustrations at right). The four-eyed face on the original U.S. album cover was actually an antique bottle opener!.

The album also includes a previously-unreleased, studio recording of a Roger Waters composition, "Biding My Time", which had otherwise only been heard by live audiences as part of "The Man/The Journey" concert sequence. The rest of the songs were identical to their album versions!!!.

The Vinyl

On initial inspection of the playing surface This looks Awesome!  Still retaining its original deep glossy sheen from new!! LOOK SUPERBE! It is hard to even see a blemish! Any that could possibly be seen would be whispy sleeve removal marks, minor\minute scuffs only!!!

The Audio Quality

 I have carefuly played this through track for track as usual prior to listing and the audio is truly awesome  certainly (no) jumps or skips CRISTAL CLEAR AND VIBRANT ON ALL FREQUENCIES! TOP! TOP! AUDIO WILL BE HARD TO SURPASS! This sounds awesome it has only ever been played by me a few times only,,  certainly not overplayed!! Unbeleivable for an original, rarest 1st pressing that is 39 years old!!!! This is clear and vibrant with, of course (no) signs of distortion or that this has been over played at all!!!  In my opinion this looks and plays Top! on all frequencies! Please note! Due to the nature of very very quiet tracks on this vinyl, it is common to hear very light static\ticks or minor crackle even when played from new, in fact I only noticed this mainly on side two in the very and almost silent parts and most would have been contributed to the vinyl needing a constant clean befor each play , which would reduce this and enhance the audio quality!

Please note! I always add this disclaimer! I have given my honest opinion as usual when describing the audio quality. I heard no  problems Please allow for the odd isolated static\tick ! Please remember that this is an original 41 year old vinyl that has been played and would have originally been played on a 41 year old system and would benefit from a clean before each play!!

Points to note! This has been stored in a case laying dormant for at least 40 years! From my experiance this vinyl would benefit from a constant clean before each play! A build up of dirt and dust in the grooves over a period of laying dormant, produces static crackle\ticks and constant cleaning reduces this static and subsequently enhances the audio quality!

The labels!

These are the original 1st issue blue STARLINE  labels with the ''GRAMOPHONE CO....'' text around the label rim  (correct for this earliest pressing) They are SUPERBE  !!   It is hard for me to just barely see a few spider marks when  angled to the light these can even be counted! THIS HAS ONLY BEEN PLAYED BY ME  A FEW  TIMES EVER WHEN INITIALLY PURCHASED AND THEN STORED IN A CASE FOR OVER 30 YEARS!! (no) spindle ware the hole is perfectly round and very tight around the spindle hole! (SEE PHOTOS) Amaizing Condition! 

The Record Sleeve

This is the ORIGINAL EMI\STARLINE advertising serpier paper sleeve with ''Made In Great Britain'' and patent no. with just a slight split beginning at the bottom edge and just light creasinbg with age only.

The Cover

This is the original textured Garrod & Lofthouse cover! In truly superbe condition (normally seen in a terrible state due to the nature of the way that these flimsy covers were made.) This copy is very near mint! Super clean and white in appearence rarely ever seen like this! No splits or tares no real creases to talk of no ring ware that is so common! This must grade as at least excellent plus to near perfect in my opinion!!
