Another original pink floyd uk pressing from my personal collection! Stored in a case for the best part of 40 years wiyth the vinyl separated from the sleeve and cover the way that i have always stored my vinyls! This looks and sounds like it has only ever been played a handful of times ever in my opinion! Never need to upgrade! Totaly original 34 year old pink floyd album! Unbeleivable! One of my all time favorite albums!

Wish You Were Here is a concept album by Pink Floyd. Recorded at Abbey Road Studios between January and July 1975 and released on September 15 1975 (see 1975 in music), the album would later be regarded as one of Pink Floyd's greatest albums and was ranked 209 on Rolling Stones 500 Greatest Albums of All Time list. Its lyrics, composed by Roger Waters and concerning the music industry, question the market-oriented record companies' lack of understanding and interest for musicians. The album also pays tribute to Syd Barrett, Pink Floyd's former guitarist and chief songwriter, especially "Shine On You Crazy Diamond", and the title track itself!

The Dark Side of the Moon had proved to be a phenomenal success, bringing Pink Floyd into the public spotlight, and the band's members began to worry how they could ever follow up such a masterpiece. After a brief flirtation with recording an album without using musical instruments, the band began honing three extended live songs over the next two years: "Shine On You Crazy Diamond," "You Gotta Be Crazy" and "Raving and Drooling". In the process, however, "Shine On" became too long to fit on a single side of a vinyl album and at the behest of Waters the band split it into two halves, composing new material to fit between them. Waters convinced the band to temporarily drop the other songs (a decision that guitarist David Gilmour fought against), which later became, respectively, "Dogs" and "Sheep" on the Animals album. Waters' newer compositions documented the band's current outlook (with the lyrics of the title track "Wish You Were Here" alluding to their boredom and frustration with music) and caricatured the negative aspects of the record business (on "Welcome to the Machine" and "Have a Cigar").

Wish You Were Here was Pink Floyd's first album with Columbia Records, their new label for the rest of the world (in Europe they remained with EMI), which they signed with in 1973 for a reported $1 million after the success of The Dark Side of the Moon. This change in labels stemmed from the band's dissatisfaction with Capitol Records, who had under-promoted the band in America prior to Dark Side. The deal with Columbia (and its subisidiaries outside the US CBS Records and later Sony Records) gave the band complete artistic control and also ownership of their own compositions and albums from this point forward would be copyrighted to the band instead of the label!

The crafting of the album saw tensions rise within the band. Wish You Were Here would be the last Pink Floyd album to see a writing credit for keyboardist Richard Wright until The Division Bell in 1994, and essentially the last Pink Floyd album where the whole band actively contributed to the process of creation; hereafter Roger Waters was to strengthen his grip on the band's output, writing the bulk of their material. Despite these difficulties, band members Gilmour and Wright confirmed on the radio show In the Studio with Redbeard that Wish You Were Here remains their favorite Pink Floyd album.

The vinyl

Please note! this lays perfectly flat on the turntable! This is the original thicker heavier type of vinyl only found on the earliest pressings produce the best audio quality! On initial inspection this vinyl looks stunning in my opinion! in fact the playing surface is lovely and glossy with (no) needle scratches or audio sounding marks that I can see at all!  Any marks that could possibly be seen under strong light could only be sleeve removal marks! To be honest I find it hard to see any at all!  Quite unbeleivable for a pink floyd record that is 40 years old and in this condition!

The Audio Quality

I have very carfully played this vinyl one time track for track prior to listing at very loud volume on a top system. The audio in my opinion is truly stunning throughout!,

The audio is cristal clear and vibrant all of the way through! Importantly there is no annoying constant loud clicks or pops heard during the audio, no distortion and certainly no skips or jumps. Any light static/crackle or isolated ticks heard during quiet places would probably be due to the fact that this vinyl has been in storage laying dormant for the past 40 years or more, and a constant clean before each play is highly recomended and would enhance the audio quality! I heard just very light isolated static/tick only.   I would class myself as highly critical , please look at my completed listings of records that I have sold of this calaber and you will see that I normaly get it right! The audio quality is graded at least excellent plus to near mint for the most part on my systems (One of the best copies that I have seen or heard) Very rare to find after 40 years!

Please note! I always add this disclaimer! That I have given my honest opinion when describing the audio quality of this vinyl. and have played it through track for track. !, Please allow for the odd isolated static or tick/pop (not) consistant through out the audio! Remember this is an original (not) a reissue that is 44 years old and would have been played on a system that is 40 years old! (One of the best that I have heard Audio graded at excellent plus to very near perfect \ near mint on my systems)

Please note! A constant clean before each play is highly recomended! This vinyl has been stored laying dormant for over 40 years! A buld up of dirt and dust in the grooves causes static/ crackle. A clean before each play will drastically reduce static and enhance the audio quality!

The audio is graded at the very very top very near mint through out!

The labels

these are superbe (see photos) (no) spindle ware I can just barely see one or two spider marks only!! All indications are that this has barely been played a handful of times only from new! unbeleivable for a 40 year old pink floyed album!

The Record Sleeve

this is the original type picture sleeve awesome condition very very light ringware can only be seen angled to the light there are no splits or tares (see photos)

The Cover and Black Poly Liner

This has the rare and original black poly seal cover which has been of coarse slit open see photos please note! Very hard and rare to find with the original sticker! although this has a slit down the opening edge it has never left the original cover, thus protecting it through its storage life.

The Postcard

This is the original postcard in superbe condition no creases like new! (normally lost)
