PINK FLOYD - A NICE PAIR..RARE SUPERB! 1ST UK PHANG PRESS N/M VINYL DOUBLE LP 1972. 

This is your chance to own an original 1972 first pressing copy of the Pink Floyd– A Nice Pair two record collection on the Harvest record label SHDW403, OC 148 50203-4.  It is one of the first 1st pressing copies as it has the subsequently withdrawn W R Phang Dental Surgeon picture in the top right of the front cover – later releases had a Monk picture instead. 

This copy has some residual evidence of the sticker sent out by Harvest to the shops to cover the picture following a request by the owner of the Dental Surgery to remove the picture.

Condition is Used. 

This record has been kept in a cool dry cupboard and un-played for well over 40 years having been purchased by me in the 1970s and then carried off to university and subsequent houses in a record box.

I have not played it, to check track quality, as I no longer have a respectable turntable fearing that one of today's modern USB record decks would act more like a plastic milling machine.  My comments below are therefore based on a close visual inspection only.  I have not cleaned the discs.

Disc 1 SHSP 4031:

Side 1:

The label printing is crisp and sharp with no rubbing around the centre pivot hole and minimal rub marking from the turntable pivot pin.  The label has the Gramophone Company labelling perimeter text and Made in Gt Britain in the 6 o’clock position.

The disc surface is in excellent visual condition with no visible scratches but there are a few fingerprints, some surface dust and one small area of scuff like marking, but not a scratch, on track 1, see photograph, which is visible at oblique angles. The Matrix / Runout area is stamped with YAX 3419-1, PL and 2 in three separate areas.

Side 2:

The label printing is crisp and sharp with no rubbing around the centre pivot hole and minimal rub marking from the turntable pivot pin.  The label has the Gramophone Company labelling perimeter text and Made in Gt Britain in the 6 o’clock position.

The disc surface is in excellent visual condition with no visible scratches but there are a few fingerprints and some surface dust.  The Matrix / Runout area is stamped with YAX 3420-1, 11D and 2 in three separate areas.

Disc 2 SHSP 4032:

Side 3:

The label printing is crisp and sharp with no rubbing around the centre pivot hole and minimal rub marking from the turntable pivot pin.  The label has the Gramophone Company labelling perimeter text and Made in Gt Britain in the 6 o’clock position.

The disc surface is in excellent visual condition with no visible scratches but there are a few fingerprints and some surface dust. The Matrix / Runout area is stamped with YAX 3633-1, 1111 and 2 in three separate areas.

Side 4:

The label printing is crisp and sharp with no rubbing around the centre pivot hole and minimal rub marking from the turntable pivot pin. The label has the Gramophone Company labelling perimeter text and Made in Gt Britain in the 6 o’clock position.

The disc surface is in excellent visual condition with no visible scratches but there are a few fingerprints and some surface dust.  The Matrix / Runout area is stamped with YAX 3634-2, 10 and 2 in three separate areas.

The photographs hopefully give some idea of the condition of the vinyl disc.  

Sleeves:

The sleeves are in excellent condition with no apparent age related discolouration or creasing to the paper.  Both sleeves have the three angled cornersand notched openings used in the first early pressings.

Cover:

The gatefold cover is in excellent condition and the cardboard is smooth, clean and "crisp" with no significant rubbing or wear to the edges, corners or spine.  There is a small (approximately 6mm square) yellow sticker in the top left of the front cover and some slight creasing and compression where the corner has been held to withdraw the record from the record box . 

The front cover has the subsequently withdrawn picture of W R Phang Dental Surgeon in the top right corner.  There is some residual glue from the sticker used to obscure this picture – I can’t remember removing it but I obviously did…..

The centre of the gatefold cover is in excellent near mint condition

Please inspect the photographs carefully.

For shipping I will place the record in plastic wrapping and pack in double stiff corrugated packaging.
