Amilcare Ponchielli - La Gioconda - 3 disc box set - sax 2359-2361
Maria Callas. includes insert and libretto.
on the great blue/silver [turquoise/silver] Columbia label produced by EMI. their earliest valve label [ES1]
Due to the significance of this record i felt it only proper to test play all 3 discs throughout. and whilst all 6 faces looked spotless, as a matter of routine they were each firstly cleaned on the Okki Nokki RCM.
Each was then test played on a Michell Gyrodec turntable, SMEIV tonearm and Musicmaker 3 cartridge via Luxman amplification and Cabasse speakers
all 3 discs play beautifully. as an avid record collector, i would say that vinyl doesn't get much better than this. it would of course be churlish of me to suggest that over the course of 6 faces there wasn't the odd light click, but i've yet to hear a record that doesn't. on side 4 there are two very faint hairlines. i have double checked this area and can confirm no effect on audio. the vinyl looks beautiful, glossy and like many box sets, possibly never played.
the box itself is in excellent condition with all corners intact and only a little edge wear. the labels, inners. insert and libretto are also in excellent condition,
i would conservatively grade the whole as excellent in accordance with the guidance given in Rare Record Collector Guide.
