Super Clean, Full Gloss - looks barely if at all played. Faintest tiny sleeve wisps only viewed under hard bright light. PLAY TESTED LP plays Like New. Labels are pristine both sides

COVER is VG+
Laminated cover is overall very clean on front; back shows some light spotting on right side and at bottom (appears to be under the laminate - possible printing blemish), otherwise clean. a few mild edge creases and lightly bumped u.r. and l.r. corners. Spine has a tiny red delete mark at bottom. No writing, soil or other marks. Spine titles are crisp and sharp, 100% legible.

"TRITON" the 2nd Potemkine release, in which the band's sound and ideology found its definitive expression.

The title of this album comes from the musical chord of the same name which in the Middle Ages was considered as the musical work of the Devil. The chord was only reintroduced in Western music at the beginning of the 20th century, in particular by Stravinsky and Bartok.

Despite the diabolic implications of the album's title, the sound and style delivered is not diabolical at all: if any, it's dark in many places, but in a directed manner, putting emphasis on the mystery instead of the sinister. Potemkine is a remarkable, idiosyncratic band merging jazz/prog with strong Zeuhl and RIO components. It's clear that the band has paid more attention to the influence from avant-prog as it is very present in much of he writing process and arrangements. At times you can tell that there's a noticeable family resemblance connecting what Potemkine are up to and what Univers Zero would achieve in their debut album that same year. Much of what fueled and imformed ZAO is also evident here. So here we've got Potemkine on top of their game, moving beyond the sonorities of their debut album and offering a greater deal of energy than either their debut or their 3rd, final album.

While the music has much of a Zeuhl feel, it also has a lot in common with the Canterbury jazz rock of Hatfield and the North and post- Wyatt Soft Machine as well, although the general ambience is considerably darker than most Canterbury bands ...mostly-instrumental Zeuhlian/Canterbury soundscapes... often foggy atmospheres but with a major dose of density and an enhanced avant-garde feel.

The contrasting dynamics work well ... the album's highlight is the 13-mins+ Eiram (Marie in reverse) with tons of interesting passages including some reminding of Magma's Milky Way, and of early Eskaton as well.

Potemkine is an excellent voice from the glorious age of European jazz-prog; those who appreciate their legacy only have words of praise for this album, which is often regarded as their magnum opus.

I do NOT EVER want to exclude all bidders from any particular country, even though a few specific countries are responsible for almost all spurious "not received" or "not as described" claims over the years. This evolves... for instance in France, buyers from Ile de France area seem, more and more, to be very prone to make a false claim. (one of my earliest, very best customers was from Ile de France but moved to Belgium some years back) ...so even there, I hate to exclude ALL buyers from there; however I cannot possibly afford to be scammed due to the unlucky result of a winning bidder being a bad actor. Also it seems to be the fun game recently for some in Germany, Spain and Italy to buy far more than the collector can afford and make false claims on many of them. Italy has long Customs hold times. In NONE of those cases is it my fault and I will not lose out because of other countries' problems beyond my control.
