Description
This is a fine original mono U.S. pressing copy of the debut LP by the Premiers, released in 1964. The group were from the East Los Angeles community of San Gabriel, and were one of several Latino combos to rise to prominence in the 1960s (Cannibal and the Headhunters and Thee Midniters were two others from East L.A.). Their big hit was the title track to the LP, a version of a 1959 single by L.A. rock duo Don and Dewey to which their manager/producer Billy Cardenas added party noises à la the Kingsmen's "Louie Louie." The song is also notable for its inclusion on the epochal 1972 Nuggets comp. The rest of the LP consists mostly of covers of other rock and R&B songs of the day, the most familiar of which is Huey "Piano" Smith's "Don't You Just Know It." Also worthy of mention are two songs by Max Uballez, a member of contemporaries the Romancers, who released two LPs around this time. The jacket has two main flaws: long (4-5”) creases in each of the top corners on the front cover, and wear in the corners. It's otherwise close M- with light rippling and staining along the top seam -- overall EX-. The disc is clean with light scraping and scuffing, and plays with minimal surface noise (M-).
I’m in the process of selling off a large personal collection amassed over two decades. All discs have been stored in plastic lined inner sleeves separate from their jackets. The jackets have been stored in plastic sleeves. I have play graded (spot checked) discs except where otherwise noted.
