Description

An unplayed, mint condition example of the ultra rare 1994 promotional issue of Prince's The Black Album, with a letter of authenticity from Recordmecca's Jeff Gold, who oversaw the production of this rarity while a Warner Bros. senior executive.

This example is the highly desirable number 10 copy, stamped 010 in gold foil on the Side 1 label. Only 300 were made as promotional items, worldwide.

The accompanying letter of authenticity, on Jeff Gold's old Warner Bros. Records stationary, reads as follows:

This letter is to authenticate an ultra-rare white vinyl copy of Prince's The Black Album.

This example, #010, is one of 300 individually numbered copies pressed in 1994.

While a senior vice president at Warner Bros. Records, I commissioned three limited edition promotional pressings of The Black Album: fifty numbered copies on grey marbled vinyl, 300 numbered copies on white vinyl, and 1000 unnumbered copies on peach colored vinyl. (Years later, Rockaway Records sold some rejected sample copies that surfaced in the warehouse of the pressing plant, Fitzgerald-Hartley. However this unplayed example is one of the original edition of 300, which I gave at the time to a co-worker, and recently purchased back.)

While at Warner Bros. during the 1990's, I worked closely with Prince, art directing numerous album covers for him, including "Diamonds & Pearls", the so-called "Love Symbol" album and "The Hits/The B-Sides"; as well as overseeing much of the marketing of his releases, including The Black Album.

I guarantee this to be authentic without time limit.

[signed] Jeff Gold

The disc is in mint condition and unplayed.  The cover is in virtually Mint condition with the peach colored type on the spine unfaded and fully readable.

An unbeatable copy of a true Prince rarity.

(Note: years after the release of this promotional album, some rejected copies surfaced from the pressing plant and were sold without the white cover with peach spine type.  This example, however, is one of the original edition of 300, sold with its original cover.)

We grade all records visually, cover first, then disc; using the abbreviations M / NM / EX / VG with + and -. We try to describe everything as accurately as possible, and spot check any vinyl flaw that looks like it might make a sound. We regularly receive praise for our grading, but as all grading is subjective, we are happy to give a full refund for anything you aren't happy with no questions asked.

Unlike some eBay sellers, we don't feel the need to hype records by including long reviews or albums, quoting lyrics, making up arcane variations. We just grade accurately, describe any flaw, and sell only high quality rare records in fine condition.
