Here's an EXCELLENT CONDITION original UK vinyl 1st PRESSING LP of PROCOL HARUM's classic "A SALTY DOG" album, released in Great Britain on Regal Zonophone Records SLRZ 1009.

This is very rare 1969 original UK Regal Zonophone Maroon and Silver label 1st Press of the great 3rd Procol Harum album. There's still a correct "Sold in UK subject to resale price" description on bottom of the labels (removed immediately from Regal / EMI labels in Autumn 1969).

"A Salty Dog" was PROCOL HARUM's 3rd release and continued their highly classical progressive exploration in music. The title track "A Salty Dog" remains to this day one of my all- time favourite songs which was very influential to young bands like GENESIS and YES. This is truly a mighty album and in many ways rivals "Shine On Brightly" and their debut release for both beauty and character in song and performance. For those not all that familiar with PROCOL HARUM's music it is really their first 3 albums which are essential in my opinion with "A Salty Dog" being perhaps the most complete and versatile album hitting heavy Blues and progressive elements throughout. This is an essential album for lovers of fine progressive music and remains one of the most treasured and revered late 60's albums. If you want to know why Procol Harum were a great creative rock band, I can think of no better starting point than this majestic album.

CONDITION

Vinyl: EX

(Visually clean and glossy. The vinyl has just one or two light cosmetic marks commensurate with age & remains in otherwise excellent condition, a lovely original 1st pressing. Some light inner sleeve removal wispy hairlines and 1 or 2 minor surface marks seen under bright lights. Aurally clean and clear. On playback the record delivers excellent aural sound with only some occasional light background noises in the quiet parts and between the tracks. An excellent original UK 1st pressing of this classic 60's album)

Labels: EX

(The original maroon and silver labels are very clean with just a few visible spindle marks)

LP Sleeve: EX

(The fully laminated cover reveals just a little storage wear, with a few minor laminate wrinkles & is otherwise in great condition, despite its 42 years. A lovely 1st pressing original copy of this legendary and iconic 60's album sleeve)

NOTES

FROM MY OWN COLLECTION COMES THIS RARE AND HARD TO FIND ORIGINAL 1969 PROCOL HARUM UK REGAL ZONOPHONE RECORDS 1ST PRESSING VINYL LP "A SALTY DOG".

Procol Harum, who reached an astounding peak with their 1967 debut, achieved further heights with each successive release up to and including this album, their third. This album mixes heartfelt singing with orchestral grandeur and an R&B-based rhythm section (B.J. Wilson is one of the great unsung drummers of the '60s and '70s). The band easily and honestly moves from the symphonic mini-epic of the title track to the bluesy "The Milk of Human Kindness." The dual keyboards offer a regal sheen that is nicely punctuated by Robin Trower's guitar. Throughout, Gary Brooker's vocals are richly barbed and the perfect vehicle to deliver lyricist Keith Reid's literary verses. With the departure of organist Matthew Fisher, this was the last great recording by the original line-up of Procol Harum. This album is essential.

A CLASSIC ORIGINAL LP BY THIS LEGENDARY BRITISH GROUP FROM THE GOLDEN LATE 60'S ERA.
