"Picnic - A Breath of Fresh Air" war eine Kompilation von Harvest Records, veröffentlicht 1970, und besonders bemerkenswert für den zuvor unveröffentlichten Pink Floyd-Song "Embryo", der auch nach der Kompilation nie auf einem der Studio-Alben von Pink Floyd veröffentlicht wurde.

Der Song wurde tatsächlich schon im November 1968 aufgenommen, weniger als ein Jahr, nachdem David Gilmour zur Band gestoßen war!

Die Picnic Kompilation, veröffentlicht auf dem 1969 gegründeten Harvest-Label (EMI's Ableger, um deren Progressive Rock-Gruppen eine Plattform zu bieten), erstreckt sich von deren wohlbekannten Acts wie Deep Purple und The Pretty Things zu den super obskuren, wie ein Song von dem raren und großartigen Bakerloo Bluesrock-Album, dem legendären Prog/Hardrock Trio Quatermass, ein Song von Syd Barretts Solo-Debüt, und gleich zwei Stücke aus der Feder des "englischen Frank Zappa" Pete Brown  - ein Stück seiner (Ex-)Battered Ornaments (er wurde kurz vor der Veröffentlichung allerdings recht unehrenwürdig aus der Band gekickt), sowie eines seiner neuen irren Band Piblokto!, um nur ein paar zu nennen.

Super Zusammenstellung, ziemlich unkonventionell, und an keiner Stelle langweilig!

Seite 3 hat einen Oberflächenkratzer, der aber nicht hörbar ist - abgesehen davon sind die LPs in tadellosem Zustand.

"Picnic - A Breath of Fresh Air" was a sampler issued by the Harvest Records label in 1970 and notable for including the previously unreleased Pink Floyd song, "Embryo", which was never released on any of Pink Floyd's studio albums.

The song, however, was already recorded in November 1968, less than a year after David Gilmour had joined the band!

The Picnic compilation, released on 1969-founded Harvest label (EMI's new branch intended for releases from their progressive rock artists), spans from their well-known acts, such as Deep Purple, The Pretty Things to the obscure and eccentric, such as a song from the epic and rare Bakerloo blues rock album, the legendary prog/hard rock trio Quatermass, a song from Syd Barrett's solo debut, and two offerings from "UK's Frank Zappa" Pete Brown, one from his (ex-)Battered Ornaments (he was infamously kicked out of the band just before release), and his new insanity Piblokto!, just to name a few.

Great compilation, pretty unconventional, never gets boring!
