Along with the commercial issue of Pink Floyd’s 10th studio album “Animals” released on January 23, 1977, Columbia Records prepared a handful of special issues of the album, including the promotional and “For Military Use Only” copies. Without and doubts these issues are extremely rare and therefore, highly collectible. The special issue presented at our current auction is the rarest among all of issues mentioned above – this issue was specifically prepared for the US government. Its gatefold cover contains a gold embossed “For Governmental Use Only” stamp un the upper right-hand corner on the back. The top center of the front cover has an extremely rare 1st print blue (not dark blue as on the reissues) “Pink Floyd Animals 34474” album title hype sticker. Original 1st print cardboard gatefold cover without the bar code features the iconic image of the Battersea Power Station with a pink pig above it. The 1st pressing catalog number “JC 34474” is located at the top of the spine. 1st print Columbia Records picture labels with a barking dog on Side 1 and the sheep on Side 2. This special issue comes with the original black cardboard inner sleeve with the lyrics on both sides. This copy was pressed at the Columbia Records Pitman, NJ pressing plant containing the machine stamped “P” in the runout grooves on both sides. The full matrix numbers are as follows: Side 1 - AL 34474-2B P 3 / Side 2 - BL 34474-2B 8 1. As a bonus to this copy, we’ve included an incredibly rare original “Cash Box” magazine 13” x 13” fold-out advert promoting the band’s new album“Pink Floyd’s ‘Animals’ (JC 34474) – new dimensions in pigs, dogs, and sheep. ‘Animals’ is new Pink Floyd, on Columbia Records and Tapes” along with a very rare vintage 1977 "Animals" 13" x 9.5" Concert Tour 28-Page Picture Program.

The cover is graded as Excellent Minus. It doesn't have any splits, tears or writing, only having some very light shelf wear in a few spots and a light bumping to the corners. The original black inner sleeve is in Near Mint Minus condition and doesn't have any splits. The original "Cash Box" magazine advert and the "Animals" concert tour picture program are in great vintage Near Mint Minus condition. I grade the vinyl as Excellent. It retains its beautiful factory gloss only having a few very light non-feelable surface scuffs from the inner sleeve. The labels are very clean, scuff- and wear-free, and are in Near Mint Minus condition. The vinyl plays amazing with only some very light occasional static that most likely could get reduced or go away completely if the record is professionally cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine.
