Pink Floyd Dark Side Of The Moon LP. Very Early UK 1st press.1973.

Here we have for auction a 1st issue very early pressing of the classic Floyd album. Featuring the A2-B2 matrixes on the run off groove, the solid blue triangle in the middle of the label, gatefold sleeve and stickers and posters present.

I have listed this album before ,but made a mistake on the listing of it, and thought it only fair to remove the listing and re-list it with the correct details.  Let me explain.  I have two copies of this album (one is my wife's).  When I listed it before I said that the front right-hand side of the cover is sealed.  In fact it is my wifes (later) album that has the sealed cover.  Mine is un-sealed.  As if it were a double album.  Let me just assure you.  I know the 'Pink Floyd Archives' state that early 1st pressings have the cover sealed.  I can only say that I have had this album from new, and bought it as soon as it was released.  The matrix numbers on the run-off groove are 'A' side SHVL 804 A-2 O 2  and the 'B'side has SHVL 804 B-2 OG 3.  If you care to look at the aforementioned archives , you'll see that this is a very early pressing indeed (one of the first).  I don't know why this album dosn't have a sealed cover, but I do know that this cover came with this  record and so is an early cover as well.  The record has the 'full' coloured light-blue triangle, and so is definitely firt-press (very early).   I just wanted to clear that point up before anybody asks !  Sorry for the people that had bids on before, but I like to be honest, and don't want anyone to think that they have paid out their money for something other than the 'real-thing'.  

Around the outer part of the label is written ‘The Gramophone CO LTD’ signifying a very early EMI- Harvest production. The later ones don’t have this written on.

The inner sleeve is Die-cut black polylined with "Made in Great Britain" and patents text in silver printed on it.

Condition.

Cover.

I would say the cover is in very good condition. With some wear and tear commensurate with an album of this age and quality. There are some wear marks on the front (see photo) , and back, (some ‘ringwear’ evident). The inside though is in excellent- condition, with just a couple of creases.

Stickers and Posters.

These items are in excellent++ condition. The posters do not look as they have even been opened out (although there is a slight mark on the outside of one of them. The stickers have never been used and the backing paper is still intact.

Inner Sleeve.

As mentioned previously, the inner sleeve is die-cut black polylined with "Made in Great Britain" and patents text in silver printed on it and is in excellent condition.

Vinyl.

I would say the record itself is in excellent- condition. There is a surface mark on side 2 but this does not impact on the listening experience. The album still sounds wonderful to this day and plays beautifully with no jumps or skips. However, there are  some pops and crackles in a couple of places. The start of ‘Time’ will still make you jump though !

I would just like to stress that I am not a record collector as such. This is just an album I have had for a long time and am now looking to rid myself of all the vinyl I have around the house ! I think if anything, I have perhaps been a bit too hard on myself regarding the condition of this album. However, I don't want to disappoint anybody, so have tried as near as possible to follow the condition guidelines as set by 'Record Collector' magazine as set out below.

Mint (M) The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

Near Mint (NM) The record looks brand new with no scuffing or any deterioration in sound quality and only the smallest hint that its ever been played. The cover and any additional extras are clean, crisp and with no wear whatsoever.

Excellent (EX) The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

Very Good (VG) The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

Good (G) The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.
