Description

Pink Floyd – The Dark Side of the Moon


UK First Pressing A2/B2 Solid Blue Triangle (SHVL 804). Owned by me from new.  It did not have a great deal of play as I worked for EMI and had several other later pressings to play.


Side A  Stamper 11 Early off the line and valued for audio fidelity   Side B  Stamper LP Corresponds to stamper #86, pressed later in the initial production cycle. While not as early as Side 1’s Stamper 11, it still originates from the same first mastering plates and retains excellent fidelity.


With Posters & Stickers – All Original


Side 1 There is a tick in run-in and briefly into track 1 – Audio/Video Sample Included. 

The faint ticking at the start of Side 1 appears to be a pressing-related imperfection or light groove flaw – not visible as a deep scratch. It does not repeat beyond the very beginning of track 1.  And is not present on side 2.

Condition Summary

Vinyl: EX visually / VG+ playback


Glossy vinyl with light sleeve marks. 

Plays cleanly except for a light, repeating tick during the run-in groove and early bars of Side 1 ("Speak to Me"). This flaw ends quickly, and the rest of the record plays with excellent clarity.  

Very low surface noise and slight surface noise on run ins and run offs.  Overall very good listening quality.

I have uploaded a video of the Side 1 tick.


Vinyl condition (playgraded):

  • Side One: VG+ – Very clean overall, with strong playback. A repeating tick is audible in the run-in and opening of Speak to Me, fading quickly as the track builds. No other intrusive faults, no skips or jumps.

  • Side Two: NM – Excellent, quiet surfaces. No notable pops, clicks, or groove wear. Plays superbly throughout.

  • Overall grade: VG+ (approaching NM across most of the record).

Collector’s note: This is a genuine UK first pressing with solid blue triangle labels. Side Two plays to Near Mint standard, while Side One is only marked down due to the light tick at the very beginning. Once into the album proper, playback is clean, powerful and highly enjoyable.  



Importantly:


The intro to “Money” (Side 2) plays cleanly and does not include the faulty loop edit found on some early B2 pressings.


Labels: EX- — minimal spindle marks - a sign the record has been played carefully and infrequently. 

Clean solid blue triangle. 


Sleeve: F — original gatefold with wear to spine, edges, and prism artwork. Structurally sound.


Posters & Stickers: VG+ — two original posters, both present and lightly handled; both original unpeeled stickers included

This is the legendary UK first pressing of Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of the Moon – A2/B2 matrix, solid blue triangle labels (no EMI logo), and “Gramophone Co. Ltd.” rim text. These earliest 1973 pressings are the most sought-after versions of the album for their superior analogue sound and rarity. This copy is complete with both original posters and both original unpeeled stickers. Vinyl plays to VG+/NM standard (Side Two NM) with only a light tick at the very start of Side One.

Correction/Clarification:
Please note that the labels on this LP do have the boxed EMI logo above the Harvest logo. This is still a genuine UK 1st pressing with A-2/B-2 matrices and solid blue triangle labels (1973). The very earliest variant has no EMI box; this copy is the very slightly later boxed EMI label variation. The description of vinyl condition, play-grade, sleeve, posters and stickers remains accurate.  (Ebay listing rules don't allow me to change this detail in the main description as there is already a bid on the item).

Final clarification (important):
The note above states that there were copies of this pressing with “no EMI box” on the labels. That information was incorrect — I was given wrong advice. To confirm: this is the correct UK 1973 A-2/B-2 first pressing of The Dark Side of the Moon with solid blue triangle labels and the boxed EMI logo above the Harvest logo. All genuine A-2/B-2 copies have this logo.
