PORTSMOUTH SINFONIA "Halleluyah: The Portsmouth Sinfonia at the Royal Albert Hall"
I am selling all my vinyl one-by-one, starting with the rarest and most soughtafter, finally, now that I have an iPod!
The sleeve is in reasonable condition (see picture), especially considering the age of the album (1974!), the record itself is in excellent condition with no scratches, dents or nicks, so it plays very well. I have very good playing equipment and have looked after my personal record collecton very well.
This isn't often found, and certainly not in this good a condition - AND ESPECIALLY WITH THE ORIGINAL GATEFOLD INNER LINER NOTES PULL OUT - with lots of full colour phootgraphs (see picture!)

" In March the first solo London Concert was a memorable evening, crowned by the 1812 Overture with canons – well, fireworks let off in a bucket in the second violins, actually. As the smell of burnt hair and clothes pervaded, Farley broke his baton across his knee and tossed it into the auditorium. The Albert Hall had to be next. In May an orchestra of 82 and choir of 300 stormed the once respectable palace of the classical tradition. The programme listed a dozen gems known and loved, at which a stage attendant was heard to say to “We’ll be here all bleedin’ night”. A coach load of American visitors were not there all night, they left after a rousing “Also Sprach Zarathustra” and claimed their money back. They missed a sensational evening - “Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1in B flat minor” was performed by Miss Sally Binding, who approached the orchestra presuming it to be a provincial, amateur orchestra. When she was told that her first performance was in the Royal Albert Hall she took her preparation very seriously, even to the extent of transposing the Concerto to A minor having been told that the players did not liking playing flats.
The result is the most moving performance ever recorded. The 1812 Overture incorporated the proper Albert Hall canons, and having survived that, the Choir took on the Hallelujah Chorus from Handel’s Messiah - and won. These magical moments were captured on “Hallelujah!” - The Portsmouth Sinfonia at the Royal Albert Hall (TRA285) released in November 1974. A world tour was then organised, which opened and closed in Cardiff one night, and now the time had come for the obligatory farewell concert. The obvious place was Her Majesty’s Prison at Wandsworth. The Portsmouth Sinfonia played to a truly captive audience, whose musical appreciation was as keen as its enthusiasm for three female percussionists. In respect of this it was perhaps fortunate that Sally Binding had not arrived – she had gone to Wormwood Scrubs instead and had been knocking on the gate demanding to be let in saying she was the piano soloist."
