Description
You are bidding on a Public Image Ltd. (PIL) 3LP set, Metal Box, orignal 1979 UK release, Virgin catalog METAL 1. I purchased this on a trip to London in 1980, and it is the original UK release, not the 2005/2006 US reissue. Included with the album is an original November 24, 1979 "New Musical Express" ad for the album that ran on the first day it was available in stores. The record store owner I bought this from cut the ads out to sell with the album. If you're familiar with the history of the album, you're aware that they did not include the lyrics with the Metal Box for cost reasons. Virgin ran a one day ad for the album with the lyrics in NME on the release date. In December, 1979, the lyrics were printed again in ZigZag Magazine, and those are the lyrics that were used on the back of "Second Edition", and were reprinted for the 2005/2006 reissue of the album.
Only 50,000 of these were produced for UK release, and an additional 10,000 for import. Rolling stone ranked the album at number 469 of the greatest 500 rock 'n roll albums of all time. The condition of the set is as follows:
+ All three vinyl lp's are in near mint condition. I only played them once or twice, then used my copy of "Second Edition" for listening. There are no scratches, residue, warping, or other damage.
+ All of the labels are in near mint condition.
+ The track listing insert has a few stains, but is in very good condition.
+ The NME ad has yellowed over time, common with newspaper print, and has a few tears in it that were there when I got it.
+ The plain paper dividers (there were no sleeves for the lp's) are all clean white, except one that has a few stains on it.
+ The top of the metal box is in excellent condition with one very small dent, and very little corrosion. I've polished the tin once every few years to keep it free of corrosion and rust.
+ The bottom of the metal box has a few dents, and some faint corrosion stains that are common in tin this old. Part of the original Metal 1 sticker has worn off over the years, primarily from polishing the tin.
+ The inside of both parts of the Metal Box are pristine.
The original Metal Box 3 LP set is extremely hard to find in the U.S., and I've actually never seen another copy of the NME ad.
